Delaware River Report 5.4.2014

DC and I made plans to float the river this past Thursday evening, and met on Saturday morning.

Here's part 1 of a long fishing report that I'll post over the next several days...

I consider DC a friend. He's a cool guy, a game fisherman, and runs the best fishing website in the Northeast. The guy can fish pretty darn well, and of course there were some funny moments in the driftboat.

DC started the day fishing a rusty spinner.

Anyway, after it was clear that the rusty spinner wasn't working, I offered a size 10 March Brown, and offered to tie it on when DC insisted that he do it himself, and added that he "didn't trust anyone to tie his knots."

So he tied on my March Brown, and within a few casts had a take from some kind of monster.

I'm not sure what actually happened, but DC lost the fish when, amazingly, he tried to strip in the giant on 6x tippet.

Either that caused the break or his knot failed, who knows.

But here's the video of DC stripping in a monster brown.

I have to admit 1 thing. The best part of this trip was when this goon (my guide) tells me he has a secret weapon. He pulls his pants down, looks me in the eyes and says, "I'm going to use a worm". True story... couldn't believe it!

Is that Triangle Taper line he's using? Did he let you touch the mythical line? Should raise its value at the next "giveaway".

So, these monsters of which you speak. Collateral damage in your skinny water fishing technique?

I was expecting to see hundreds of photos of three-inch trout taken in four-inch deep water. The Beetle guiding services needs to work out the kinks. Draw up some diagrams on cocktail napkins. Run some tests in the bath tub. That sort of thing.

I bet the 20 anglers running down the shore were highly disappointed.

Please do not disgrace the Delaware with your acts of man love. This is a family river.

Have you two boobs thought of a career in making a fishing show. Great camera work. DC has taught you well.

I did the camera work.

I'm glad you appreciate quality work, and recognize that those fish would not have been landed without my coaching.
