Spinners on the WBD

Rusty Spinner

Active member
Just back from my 13th annual Trout Louts trip to the WB Angler in Deposit (Hale Eddy) with the crew. We ran into and adopted Ralph Ford. Some old posters on the board were up such as Rick A and Agust to name a few. The WB was on fire and wade fishing only. Hendricksons and their spinners as well as olives and Paraleps and their spinners. The caddis about never seemed to matter much in the equation which was just fine by me. Having low water put all the boats on the lower East and upper main where it is still largely the "Tween Hatch" although we did see a bunch of March browns on the upper main on Friday during a float.

Last light brown and you all know the fly by now...but moved up to 5x

The nightly 5pm Martini break at the Home Pool - everyone welcomed! Most years we've had at least 2 or 3 drift boats parked out front having a passing cocktail with us, but the flows didn't allow for that this year so......

At least one Trout Lout took others' share of the vodka and stuffed olives (or hot pickle peppered okra if you preferred). Man down, MAN DOWN!:beer1::drunk::applaudit

Ralph Ford, ignoring a fellow comrade that has fallen and continuing to fish. But who could blame him? After all, there were bugs all over the water and our Louts know how to wander back to fish camp.

Because even chubs need some love! Agust with a Delaware tarpon on a dry on the upper main. It wasn't his only....:):crap::)

Campfire comradery where we share our finest whiskey and some great laughs well into the early hours. BS has been known to fly every now and then.

Agust wondering where he left his singlemalt while deep frying Oreos. Note to self: invite a cardiologist next year. Or I could just double up on my statin medication.

The annual commemorative engraved glass.

BTW, please forward all of Ralph's mail to the White House at the West Branch Angler Resort, Hancock, NY. See you soon, buddy!

Commemorative glasses too! That is a dedicated assemblage you have there. Great report. Glad to hear that the fishing gods smiled upon you.

I'm heading up the middle of this week. Looks like I better tye a whole bunch more spinners. Any chance the March Browns will be significant on the WB later this week?

Wow I'm so jealous. Glad the rain gave you a break and you got some good fishing in.

I don't see newbie or Dave??? I was wondering what happened to Agust.

Great thread and pics,

Nice report Rusty!

I floated on the East on Friday and Saturday. March Browns had started up there and there were enough around to get the fishes attention.
The fish were pretty spooky so it wasn't easy getting close enough before putting them down. If they stayed on the feed it wasn't too difficult to get takes.
On Saturday we got rained on pretty heavily and the flows tripled by the time we got to the take out...pulled some hogs out of the riffs on nymphs though which made the trip...
Finally got the V card off my 'toon with running nymphs...I guess I wasn't trying hard enough. Well I'm sure most would agree, running an indy rig through riffs while trying to control the one man 'toon isn't the easiest task...and if you do hook up, its a wild ride! Luckily I went 3 for 3 on this since the fish were will to ride the riff out with me...

Newbie was out of work and then got some side work that kept him busy. Dave (leaky waders) is marrying off his oldest daughter this weekend and couldn't make it either. Both will be back next year I'm sure.
