Hows is the fishing on the Delaware around Lambertville up stream more though. I don't feel like making the 3 hour trip to Beaverkill this early in the season but would like to hit up the Delaware. Thanks

Stomp,

I'm not sure how the Delaware around Lambertville is doing, but a trip to the Beaverkill would be well worth the time spend driving up there. If it's just the matter of the 3hr ride, I understand, but if it's the fishing your concerned about, you'll do well. I had a field day up there this past weekend, and many others were catching fish too.

OK but I'm going to hold you to blame if I come up empty J/K. The thing is I like to go up there for the scenery as well, not to scenic yet. When the trees are all filled in and spring has completely sprung I like to just sit back and relax, even if I don't catch anything.
Thanks,
Rob

HAHA very funny Tommye. Don't get me wrong fishin is always first, but I work a very high stress job. I get one day a week to relax away from everyone. I'd rather drive 3 hrs when its nice up there and not dreary like it is now.

Totally understand, Stomp. It sure does get pretty up there in the summer and fall time. Give it another few weeks and the scene should improve considerably.

Tommye, If your talking about the Catskills I doubt they have great spring colors right now. I've been up in early May and there were barely leaves or buds on the trees. Dennis or Jason any response. BTW, the spring colors in Lambertville are great right now. andre

wish I could tell you as I am moving to Lambertville in May I am learning more. There are a few spots I mean to try. The Wing dam looks like it is coming down a bit and should be fishable. Saw a dead shad about 18 inches at the boat launch on the Jersey side buy the big flea market. Was at the shad fest and saw the guy net a bunch of stripers and shad so they are around. Think i am going to get up at dawn on Saturday and do some exploring. will let you know. Andre

NJStomp, if you're after trout don't bother with the "D" in that area. On the other hand, the shad are in all the way to the Delaware Water Gap and beyond, and the stripers are in and active as well.
If you go after the shad, remember they prefer to run and hang in the main channel very close to the bottom.
For the stripers, use tactics similiar to locating trout. For example look for a boulder/boulders next to deep water, drop-offs where they might lay in wait for baitfish to wash over, etc. Clousers, decievers, etc should work as the mainstay of the stripers diet right now are the herring running up the river or any unsuspecting stockies that may have been washed out of tribs during recent high flows.
