Best Seafood purveyors near shore

Anyone recommend any seafood shops down the shore from the Sandy Hook area down to about Pt. Pleasant? Next fishing trip, I'd like to stop in and bring some fish home to cook. That is, aside from the monster striped bass I plan to catch :)

Hello CR,
If you are in the Point Pleasant area there are 2 excellent sea food shops in the area one is Spikes which is located at 415 Broadway in Point Pleasant and the Seafood co-op located on the left before you go over the little bridge at the end of Broadway both carry an good variaty of fresh caught seafood. Enjoy and good luck striper fishing..

If that area has any 'Party Boats', try being at the pier when they come in. If it's anything like Sheepshed Bay used to be when I lived near it, the boats come in roughly about the same time. There are usually guys willing to sell some of their catch to pay for their day or to pay to go out another time. You might get lucky and find someone. I used to buy fresh Blues @ 2 for $5.00. They were about 3-4 pounds each.

I have a great bluefish recipe... You grill the blue fillets on a cedar plank until the fish is nice and flaky, and then throw the fish in the woods and eat the plank.

I live near Spikes and the Co-op.. both right on the wharf and carry loads of fresh seafood. I'd say the Co-op has a little larger variety. Im getting hungry.

Thanks for all the recommendations. I was near the Hook today and stopped by Lusty Lobster. NOT ONE LOCAL FISH in the whole shop - everything was imported from South America, Maine or Florida. Exactly NOT what I am after. I want Jersey stuff. NEXT!

If you get near the ones that where suggested you'll have a chance at some local caught seafood.

I thought that about the Lusty Lobster but wasnt positive and didnt want to post it. When near Point Pleasant hit the Co op. While they have some imported seafood, most it caught fresh locally. If you want a great seafood restaurant the Wharfside is a few doors down.. best crabcakes in Jersey.
