Ausable / Boquet

JM68

C&R the trout greatly appreciate it.
I'm taking a weekend trip upstate to fish the ausable, boquet and lake champlain. Just wondering if anybody has fished either of the two rivers in the past week or so. If so how are the conditions and whats workin best.

Id guess that its a little too early up there for good trout fishing right now. The catskills havent even gotten going yet and the adirondacks get going usually 2-3 weeks after them so its still some time off. I'd wait a few weeks or even til late may to take a trip.

Rainbows, lakers, and LLS will hit like mad near the surface right after ice-out. Early May is usually the time for that, but since this year has been so screwy, I don't know the conditions up there. So, I really can't give you any advice, other than look for those ice-out conditions! :D

As much as i would love to wait a few weeks i can't, i booked this trip about 3 months ago not anticipating the miserable weather. I talked to the place that we r staying and they said the snow and ice is gone and this past week was close to 80 for a couple days. I will be fishing the rivers for a day or two and on Saturday i will be out with a guide on Champlain. Hopefully we can get some LLS and lakers on the lake if the rivers r still cold. Just wanted to see if anyone had actually been up there yet. Thanx for the replies.

Check you private messages. Add me to your buddy list if you didn't get one from me & i'll send again. Keep Your trip, you are on time.

Thanx, i got it. I just cant send one back till i make my 10th post.

Fish the mouths of the Bouquet, Ausable and Saranac with smelt patterns. You have a great chance of getting either a lake trout or landlocked salmon that are focused on gorging themselves full of smelt at this time of year. Fishing at first light and after 3:00PM are the best times. After the first light of the day the smelt will leave the brooks and head out to deeper water in schools and that is where the trout and salmon tend to ambush them. The ice should be off of Willsboro Bay by now because Lake George is free of ice after the heat wave we had over this past weekend.

Thanx for the info. I think the plan for saturday with the guide is to do just that. We will be in a boat, but from what i was told the guide will probably bring us close to the mouth of the river for lakers and salmon.
