Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

Attn: Truck Chasers, and those who want to avoid them.

I find, if you stay out of the Ken Lockwood gorge, the fall stockings are a pleasure to fish...not to many people fish it, and there are plenty of large mutant lips to rip........I prefer wild trout, but in NJ we have to take what we can get.....:)

This is my first year FLy fishing and really even trout fishing. How long will the stocked trout be expected to really be in an abundance? May seem like a dumb question. Not remotely use to fishing for stocked fish. Reason I ask is that I probably won't get a chance to go fishing because of work and vacation in October. I might get 1 day and I want to go to the catskills one more time before the NY trout season is over. So I guess what I'm asking are there still going to be a lot of fish around in November? Areas like the Flat brook, Pequest and the Musky.

.....there are many spots on the sbr that will hold fish all year....and the Musky, and the Pequest......never fished Flatbrook.......

Truck chasers........hey if you want to catch any of the fall stockings you better get out there because most of these
stockies will be caught in a few days. Especially if it doesn't rain soon.......I saw the Ramapo basically emptied out in the first
few hours at Glen Gray, but hey it is Jersey not Montana. And if you fish the stocked rivers you pretty much are a truck chaser, some
later on the scene than others but one never the less.

On NJ's major trout streams, we have a year round combo of wild, freshly stocked (spring and fall) and multi-year holdover fish for the most part. Each contributes to having fishable numbers 12 months per year. I noticed fewer fish last winter due mainly to the unbelievably hot and dry summer we had, but things have rebounded nicely this year. November is a great month to be out and there will be ample fish. It gets to be less and less as winter progresses until the big spring stockings dump far more than anglers can take out. That said, there are always a few spots that do get fished out, but they are by far the minority of stocking points. Get away from the crowds and you'll find that wild and stocked fish have joined you. That is true on any river that is stocked anywhere. Don't just fish the bridge pools! :)

Glen Gray and vicinity is too popular.... walk...(or drive)...

I've caught Ramapo "fall stockies" as late as January. If I'd been a bit "Tougher" about frozen feet, I imagine, February & early March would have also worked.

There's a difference between waiting under the bridge, on stocking day, holding out your net, and giving them a few days/weeks to acclimate.

I fish all year...fishing in the snow is one of my favorite activities.....there are fish year round...getting them to eat a fly in 15 degree February weather is another matter....

Chase a truck hell no. I try to beat them to where they are stocking, and fish while they are dumping. It is the best time to catch them.
