Good Afteroon Ladies and Gents,

I was able to take advantage of this beautiful weather today, so I packed my gear and headed over to the QUINNIE. The river HAS NOT been stocked yet, however the stretch of the river leading into the Resevoir WAS, below the dam, so I fished there.

I arrrived to be greeted with 34 million work dunkers strewn along the banks. So, I rigged up a wooly bugger with a size 16 Rainbow Warrior hanging off the back.

Second cast and BAM! A MASSIVE bow came to hand, caught on the rainbow warrior. I got another very nice bow and a hefty brown both this time on the bugger. All three faught VERY well! Only 2 other people I saw caught fish, (2 total) which were on pheobe's. Saw trout popp'n for flies out in the middle, but if you know where Im talkin about, you dont have the back cast room to zing a fly out there. SHOULD HAVE HAD MY MEAT STICK! (ha)

If I only had a kayack I could troll some streamers out there and Im sure SLAM THEM! Saw (2) loons feast on some small trout as well.

Rangers and Environmental police were EVERYWHERE! E.P. busted a group of (4) teenagers for smoking grass right by the bridge, along with the 9 tickets I saw him right for no license. IDIOTS.
:give-the-finger:
UPDATE:

RIVER ROAD IS CLOSED FROM THE 190 over pass down to the DAM. This is EXCELLENT news as the meat hunters will now be reluctant to walk that stretch of river! Fishing should be AWESOME here throughout the season, NEXT TO THE ROAD! No more drive bys!

Stocking will begin NEXT week in the MAIN river.

WIll be hitting up trout brook tomorrow morning for some natives. Drove by and river looked AWESOME!

Enjoy the pics!:smiley-sniffer: (the larger pics are too big to upload, this are small, but do the trick)

So, upper river can be accessed from Mill Road still ?

How are you ? I need to get out to the Quinnie and the Stillwater.

Did u fish the Quabog ? I'm thinking EB Swift or Ware also.

CLEAR! Whats up buddy.

Yeah, Quinnie can still be access from whereever, just need to "hike" into the river road spots.

As for the EB swift, water is at PRIME level, however I was talking tot he owner of the Lower Forty and he lives right on the Ware and its still blown out...

Gonna make some calls today and see if The Qunnie got fish this week or the EB Swift (different jurisdictions, so will have to call the two offices)

I will report back... If the EB branch of the swift got fish, I would like to hit that on Sunday. You down? I think brookie and E are down too.

I'm down man. Sounds good to me. It's gonna come down to the wire in terms of the trout stocking. Post up the info you get after finding out which places have been loaded. I really wanna see what the quinnie is like. Let us know.

Will do! Quinnie is awesome! PLENTY PLENTY of pocket water at the lower end, which I lOVE! I would suggest no smaller than 8.6'' rod... I use my 8 foot loomis 3weight when its REAL low, but with thhis new rain, im sure it will spike a bit. 8.6 4/5wt is ideal. 9 foot if you REALLy like to HIGH stick like me. On bigger rivers such as the deerfield, I use my 9'6 or 10'0 rods exclusively...LOVE high sticking.

Will update in a few hours

The quinnie is that big, huh? I always thought that I could get away with my 8ft 4wt, but I guess I'll bring two rods to see what it's like. I heard that there is an amazing oxbow somewhere on the river (trout brook)? It's also good because it would have been a long drive from RI if we go to the EB, and the quinnie is under an hour away. After you post the info up, how do you want to figure out where we meet/when we meet?

Good afternoon ya'll.

Quinnepoxet River HAS been stocked, however not to its potential as the rail trail is TOO wet to take a truck down, and since river road is CLOSED, they just dumped fish off river road bridge, hoping they would meander down to the now "closed" section. As soon as the trail trail opens(per DNR), this section of river will be stocked with LOTS of fish...

EB. Swift HAS been stocked.

I am going to hit that river tomorrow morning perhaps, if anyone wants to join? I will be hitting the Quinnie on Sunday morning. For those fishing Sunday, easiest place to meet would be river road/rail trail parking lot. There is a SMALL pull off right next to the river, however only 3 cars can fit. Can't make any promises to hold a spot there. Thus, the BIG parking lot on river road (off 31 in HOLDEN) is the best bet. I myself drive a blacked out hemi with orange racing stripes.

We can then figure out if we want to head north a bit to the upper reaches, or fishin down to the reservoir.

My cell is 8622680321 text me.

Ill be the only idiotic fly fisherman there wearing a full leg cast. lol THe doctor freaks out when I tell him I go fishing, but no one is keeping me from fishing, broken leg or not.

here is what I look like...Kinda difficult crossing a turbulent section of river with one good leg lol

THe other picture is why Im in a cast. lol My ski literally cut my leg in half. lol But 5 surguries later im still fishing!!!

I was going to ask you if that was the same cast you had on last year; then you mentioned 5 surgeries. Well now I don't have have to ask. Good luck with that!

Yup, the surgery thing is a never ending process. Oh well, atleast im still fishing!

Tight Lines!

Simms nice picture a good reminder of why to carry a wading staff. Funny though how some of our worst injuries happen outside of fishing season. Cant say I have broken my leg but I once had a zipper installed on it.

Flee!

Nice pic! Damn!

Im on my 5th set of "zippers"...Tell ya one thing, they look alot MEANER than stiches, but they come out so much easier! The scabs dont adhere to the stainless steel like they adhere to the stiches..ouch

When I had my zipper installed they used no anesthesia or pain medicine. They certainly hurt going in, but taking them out was a different story. I have had stitches a few times and agree staples actually feel good when they remove them.

Hey Simms, I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but I may not be able to go on Sunday. Right now it's a big MAYBE, it's 50/50. If I can't go on Sunday, I'm around on Thursday, which may actually be better because the water will be even lower and the stockies will have gotten a feel for things. Also, Thursday is supposed to have equally good weather, so if it's Sunday or Thursday, I'm around and hopefully you'll be be around on Thursday if Sunday in a no go for me. I let you know.

No fishing Sunday for me, my son's Christening. Will be fishing local stocked pond tomorrow. Been working every weekend, maybe by next weekend I will be able to fish in the evening.

Ok let me know. I will surely be out. My father is coming up to fish that weekend as well.

Water is finally on the mend. Temps plummeted 6-8 degrees since the 11th, but are finally making head way. Decent amount of insect activity on the surface today with no fish interested. Water level PERFECT.

Water levels are slowly receeding as well. Thursday they should "perk" back up with the anticipated showers. With a little rain every few days, the river should fish well FAR into the summer.

Fished the currently "not yet stocked" portion of the Quinnie and landed some NICE browns from the fall stocking. A 10'' BEAUTIFUL native came to the net as well.

Also fished another location north of their and landed 2 beautiful 15-16'' 'bows.

Spoke to some fellow fly fishermen and they reported dismal success, however it was due to their frustration with the bait guys. They kept encroaching on them. It was a shame.

TIGHT LINES!

Do the forums terms and agreements say you're required to read my threads?

Just about 100% of the fly fishing community up here calls it the QUINNIE.
Simms, I usually like your threads. I just hate that name. It sounds so very foppish, as if the entire length of the stream runs through a country club or bath house.

lol Just a habbit. I will try to refrain from saying it. Now i just have to figure out how to spell the actual name. HAHA

The Quinnie is actually a decent stream. Fished it last week with good action. Don't take it the wrong way, this river is good. It is pretty small compared to my favorite larger streams, but it'll do.

What section did you fish? The Quinnepoxet does open up to a considerable size the farth down you get. Also, from river road down to the damn is all pocket water. It HAS NOT been stocked within the previously mentioned section yet.

There is also another section that I will not disclose that is a NYMPH fishermans PARADISE. And hardly ANYONE ventures to this area.

Glad you had some action brook. Will be heading north to the EB. of the Swift Thursday/Friday hopefully. The showers should keep the worm dunkers at bay.

I fished in the pocket water right near river road. I LOVE the oxbow when Trout Brook joins the river. On a warm summer day there's nothing better than hiking up a cool water mountain stream and catching wild fish. Gonna see when my next trip is gonna be. Thinking about the Willimantic in eastern ct. Hatches on that stream are unreal.
