Winter is over and your backs are all rested so.................time to get busy! We have 2 clean up dates, one for the main Musky on Sat. April 16th (8 am - noon) where we help our partners at the Musconetcong Watershed Association with their annual clean up all along the river and roads around the river. We have been hovering near 500 volunteers the past year or two with TU's help, so let's get out and push that # over the top. It sends a powerful message to those living or working in the watershed to see crews cleaning up wherever they go in the watershed on that day. PM me or email me if you wish to help as we have multiple meeting locations set up along the river starting to the north with Hackettsown, in the middle at Penwell and Hampton Borough Park, and to the south in the parking lot of the closed Hughesville paper mill. My email is: BCowden@tu.org
The second project will take place on a Musky trib called Kurtenbach's Brook, site of a metal culvert removal and in-stream restoration along I-80 in Mount Olive Twp. in Allamuchy Mountain and Stephens State Parks. That project will be a combined stream clean up and rock rolling project. We need some strong backs to roll 1' - 2' boulders from old farm stone walls down to a few sites along this stream. The walls are very close to the stream, but we need these boulders in place to perform the in-channel restoration later this summer. This will begin at 10 am and we will likely meet at a common location like in front of the Lowe's in the ITC Crossings shopping center right off routes 80 and 206 in Flanders (Mt. Olive Twp). More details on meeting location as we get nearer. This project is in conjunction with our Hacklebarney chapter who should be sending about 15 volunteers that day. Some of those volunteers will be performing macro invertebrate studies to form a baseline for our restoration work so we can track our success after we restore this native brook trout trib. We have a large dump site where the RR tracks run over the stream and are working with State Parks to have large trucks on site that day to haul off the garbage.
Thanks in advance, I know I can count on many on the sites to come out and help each project and I greatly appreciate that as does the river
