1st Float trip

Thinking of trying out a float trip this year on the WB. I have never been on a drift boat yet, I prefer the solitude of wading, but this year I really want to spend more time investigating and learning the WB. Any ideas on who to use would be helpful, though I am sure they are all great in their own way. If you prefer PM me with details.
Thanks

Boom2it,

Don't be too quick to booking a float trip on the WB this year. The river is already very low for this time of the year, 350 cfs at the Hale Eddy gage this morning. The WB does not float drift boats very well below 600 cfs, maybe 500 cfs if the guy is good with the oars. Don't let some guide tell you can float at flows below 500 cfs . It won't be any fun.

Corndog's recommendation of Joe D is a good one since he uses a 3-man pontoon boat when the flows are low. He's also a great guy, excellent fisherman and very knowledgeable guide.

Likewise for Walt Ackerman who operates out of Catskill Flies. Walt uses a big NRS rubber inflatable boat which draws very little water. You won't find a better guide and nymph fisherman than Walt.

Lee Hartmen also floats with an inflatable but doesn't seem to be guiding as actively since he sold his outfitting camp. He probably relies more on repeat clients now. I don't know how to get a hold of him but the BWO tackle shop in Hancock may be able to help.

Most good guides are booked-up a year in advance, so it's good to have three choices for low water drifters.:)

P.S. I forgot Wayne Aldridge and his red three-man pontoon boat. Wayne is a buddy of Joe D and also a knowledgeable guide.

hummm so let me get this straight, if I do take a float this year,
my 401k will continue to take a crap...(give in no matter what I do)
we will be wading and dragging the boat over rocks due to low flow...
the weather will be wrong no matter how I prepare for it...
and there still won't be an agreed upon plan by all parties on release...
maybe I should just stay home, or just continue to enjoy my solitude and walk the river alone.
nice hijack, piss and moan in your own thread.

Boom2it,

What's with that response? I told you my opinions. I didn't bitch about the flow regime, the weather, or the bugs. IMO, and I fish there often, WB flows of less than 500 cfs are not conducive to pleasant memories of floating tranquilly down the WB. Will you catch fish? Absolutely if there are bugs out & about but at 500 cfs, or less, you can walk and wade anywhere you want albeit you won't be able to cover miles of river.

WBranch,
it had nothing to do with your response, and I appreciate the information you passed along.
My response was to the other threads that were moving in a completely different direction from my original question.
My response was more joking around then anything.
To bad we don't have threads regarding the flows were everyone agrees about what a great plan we have, and how its managed so well by the powers that be.....its nice to dream
