Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!
Hey Fellows,
Haven't been around in a while but wanted to share some photos and a write-up I crafted from a float trip recently with John Clark + my daughter.
You can check it out here: https://mtthwnvk.exposure.co/west-branch-float
The information isn't going to be anything new or ground...
For her 13th birthday my daughter asked for a fishing trip to the Catskills. I was happy to oblige, so we headed up to Esopus creek this morning.
Fishing was pretty decent in the morning at the usual public access spots, was really cool to see my kid land a few good ones. I think this might...
Am I the only one who finds it terribly humorous but also annoying that if you read anything about the history of any river in the north east every one of them will claim that they are the birthplace of western fly-fishing?
Hey All,
I have a trip planned for early July to head up from New Jersey to visit Hill Farmstead and a few other places. I'll be camping in the green mountains and had planned on blue-lining for Brook trout.
Every lead I find and research is filled with a lot of talk about Irene damage. have...
So here's the back story: been planning a trip to the ADK's for some fly fishing and film making. We secured a cabin way up north on a larger river, but guide calls today and say this week's weather is gonna wash us out and chances of getting on fish with temps and flows is not looking good...
My Google skills seem to be slipping. Some posted signs ended up near a spot I fish often from the "Eagle Hunting Club, Wanaque NJ" But I can't seem to find any information about them.
I'd like to get in touch to find out their boundaries to avoid any issues. I think there's a section of public...
What's the point of WTS designation if you're only doing it on a portion of a stream?
I understand if the state designates a portion of a stream if there are impoundments but I fish on a WTS section of a stream that directly connects to a section that is not WTS and gets stocked.
I'm not...
I don't have to tell anyone on here how much suck this winter brought. So it was no surprised when I nearly cried tears of joy when I slipped my waders on last week. 41º felt like 90º and before I even stepped in the stream My expectation of the trip were already met. Fortunes favored us well...
So the season "closed" on the 15th but I understand that I can fish on TCA's. I think also on WTS right? but what about creeks and streams that are not on the wts that are also tribs of stocked rivers, off-limits?
I finished up my short film about our trip to the Catskills you can check it out here and make fun of it in the comments below!

Happy New Year
I made a minimal style illustration of a trout identification poster. They're for sale up in my shop. Not sure what forum rules are so I'm not going to post a link, but if you're interested PM me and I'll send you the link and an NEFF coupon code.

This may seem like a stupid question, but someone entertain me, please.
What keeps fish in certain stable places, when water, is by nature not prohibitive to movement. Im sure fish move but in my limited experience catching fish, it seems you can fish the same spots or the same stretches and...
well.... I am MAKING a movie about a fly-fishing adventure. The trailer is done though! You can check it out here:

Its on netflix and it's really worth a watch.
A few things:
• some of the more beautiful river/fish/portraiture footage I've ever seen
• relevant topic about removing dams
• as a Sussex county raised psudeo punk rock hippie I basically agree with everything in the movie, but I would have...
I was fishing the other day in Bloomingdale and guy came down from the landscape place in town and told me he dig out the far side of the stream so it was a deep pool run. We didn't talk much more than that, but it got me thinking:
Are there any laws stopping any person from just going and...
I had to go to Maine to do it, but I landed and released my first trout, and it was just shy of my goal to catch one before I'd been fly fishing for a year.
Anyways, any knowledge I have is due to most of the stupid questions I've asked that have been answer here, and some solid luck! So...
I have a shoot tomorrow morning in lambertville, don't know much about the area but I'm gonna bring my gear, if anyone wants to fish around 8:30 9ish let me know I'll be around

I've been fishing topwater for bass at a reservoir by my house. I was unaware but there seems to be a fair amount of Muskie or pike maybe, anyway... Hooked into a big one today (google image search lets me think it wasn't really that big for that species, but for me, HUGE) fought it well and got...
I was watching a river the other day and noticed 2 red-tailed hawks perched above a pool and it got me wondering: if you are scouting new spots, are large birds of prey, close to a water-source, a legitimate sign that there's a good amount of fish there?

Maybe it's just bad luck, but I've been fishing and hiking about 12 times this year so far and every time I've found multiple ticks. Last night found two embedded. Anyone else noticing there's more than usual? Anyone have any good homemade repellants?
