    Latest Trend in Steelhead Fishing

Why would I lie? Welcome To Mexico Maine Of course, if you had been in Maine you would have likely been told "You can't get there from here."

    Latest Trend in Steelhead Fishing

Someone told me some ago that the river the Corona brewery gets its water from has a tannery just upstream of it. The river is diverted through a concrete trough which runs through the middle of the tannery where they soak the hides. AK - I thought you knew Mexico is in Maine? Guinness gives...

    Big Flat Brook this weekend

I was up there yesterday, although I was bird hunting. Lots of water in the river, and I didn't see anyone fishing so you just might have it to yourself. I strongly suggest you wear some blaze orange!

    Fishing Private Waters in PA

There are three clubs on the upper Brodhead that I know of. The two oldest clubs are partners, and they have been in existence on the same stretch of river for over 100 years, so their ownership of the land and stewardship of the river is not new.

Cabela's Studded Sole UltraLight™ Wading Boots

I know I said that my next pair of wading boots were going to be LL Beans. But there I was, with my old pair of Hodgemans wearing out and one week away from heading up to Maine, on the LL Bean website. The boots I wanted to get? Available January 3rd!?!?! Well, "F---". I said, and the next day...

    Adirondack Landlock Salmon

I fished around the Western mountains of Maine during the last week of fishing season. The weather was unusually warm, which kept water temps too high to get the fish to move. A strong storm which move through dumped over two inches of rain, but it did not bring the flows up too much. Water...

    Maine's Atlantic Salmon Season

Yeah well, I'll be up in the Western Mountains of Maine this Saturday, in pursuit of my first love, Landlocked salmon. I'm even sticking around for bird season this year to gun for a pa'tridge or two. I'm ready... fresh streamers are tied (sorry - some are trade secrets)... The dog's ready...

What kind of fish is this?

I always let them go, but from what I understand many a river chub has sailed up onto the banks of Western Maine rivers to serve as tree fertilizer for decades. I don't think the unexpected upgrade in their flight status has hurt the population at all.

    GPS Suggestions

Garmin makes very good GPS units. I have an E-trex Legend, but it's not the best for auto use, although I certainly use it for that. On long trips I made a portable mount system to put my Lowrance 334C sonar/gps unit in my truck. It doesn't talk to me, but it shows me where I am, and I might as...

    Fernie, British Columbia

Typically you can't book a connecting flight without at least 45 minutes to an hour of layover in between. So you've got that delay, then the flight (and any associated delays) then the whole "get off the plane and wait for your luggage deal", then more time while you try to get out of the...

    Fernie, British Columbia

If it's anything like experiences I've had travelling it will save you lots of time. I've found that typically short "puddle jumper" flights take more time than driving. Plus, if you flight is delayed on the way out at least you should have a better shot at decent food and a bar at a larger...

    Orvis Zero "G" nightmare

St. Croix also recommends you wax loose ferrules. The reason they get loose and slip is that the taper doesn't fit exactly right. So, coating the male side of the ferrule with wax helps seal the taper and results in a tighter fit. Believe me, a perfectly matched - and I mean perfectly matched...

    Leadville Colorado in August

I lived near there, at least in the high country sense of the word "near" meaning within about a two hour drive. You're relatively close to the Gunnison area, where you've got the Dos Rios - Taylor & Gunnison rivers - to fish in. Worth the trip. Then again, you'll find fish in what looks like...

    DR Flows a disgrace

My theory: very hot weather = more air conditioners running = more demand for power = more water released through generation via hydroelectric systems. It would seem to make sense from a "fish conservation" point of view to remove the power generation releases from the flow target, but maybe...
