Leadville Colorado in August

Fly Fishing, it's not just a sport
I'll be travelling to Leadville, Colorado in August to spend time with some of my girlfriend's family. Will be there about a week. The hosts are fishermen so I think they'll pretty much put me on fish, but was wondering about anyone else's experience maybe in that area. Hopefully will have pictures and info to share when I return.

I lived near there, at least in the high country sense of the word "near" meaning within about a two hour drive. You're relatively close to the Gunnison area, where you've got the Dos Rios - Taylor & Gunnison rivers - to fish in. Worth the trip.

Then again, you'll find fish in what looks like a ditch, so pass nothing up as "too small". Most of the small creek fish are very spooky, so sneak up & keep a low profile.

If you've never been there before, you'll love it. Bring something warm to wear too, it can get pretty cold even in August. I remember more than one early morning where the day started out in single digits, and snow on the passes was not unusual. Then again, that was before all this global warming started.

I miss the high country. :( One day I'll return...

Thanks Scott. My girlfriend has been there before and she is aware of the early morning cold. I'm sure I am in good hands with the people we are visiting and hopefully I'll catch fish. Thanks again for the tips.

Was a great trip. First time fishing anything west of western PA and was just in awe of the beauty of the land and fishing. Fished a high lake and near the head waters of the Arkansas River and found myself concentrating more on my surroundings than the fishing sometimes. Can't wait to go again. Couple of pictures. Sorry none of fish but the fish were incredibly perfect.
