Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

My .02. As a beginner, try not to get so hung up on the proper bugs that are hatching. Stick with general patterns.
For dries use the standard set of flies called Attractor Flies (flies that dont mimic a specific fly, rather a general pattern). For starters, you need parachute...

I'm planning on tying Thursday night at Cosi on the upper west side starting at 630 PM:
Cosi

New York, NY 10024

In the back of the restaurant, there are several tables available that we can tie on. I'll be tying hendricksons and march...

On a related note, the editor of Drake Magazine (and a couple others) bought the rights to the Fly Fishing Tour:
The Show Must Go On
MOLDY CHUM: New Owners Ensure a Future for the Flyfishing Film Tour
Great deal!
I also purchased a Renzetti Traveler (lever model, pedastal) display model (from Ramsey Outdoors in Paramus) years go. I have tied a lot on it and the only thing I have replaced is the O ring. The vise performs well for me.
Happy tying!
Kurt

You may also want to visit and support some of your local fly shops as they can provide detaile accurate stream information in your area.
