Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

Wild or not?

Not a wild fish in my opinion. No red spots at all, and many of the dark spots border each other creating a bit of a chain pickerel look in a few places. I've seen that look on many stocked fish in NY state. Can't tell the condition of the pectoral fins from that picture, but the coloration says stocked fish to me.

Yes, THANKS for your input.

it is appreciated...

Oh jeez, LIGHTENUP, if I had thought that my experience with sbrr brown trout would add to the discussion and would be of value to you, I woulda opined.

But given the last one I caught has been dead about 40 years...

The wild/stocked debate does still fascinate though...

Well, then it's time for you to go catch another one, and I really don't think much here fascinates you..

FF, native or alien?

So what are you tryin' to say, FI34? I'm not man enough to answer fish questions, but I'm the "guy" to ask about flowers? That for some reason FF is some sorta expert in culturally feminine topics? I've never been so insulted...

But yeah, that's a native...
There's a couple of species but I believe that's Trillium Erectum...

All kidding aside, is that a current photo? If so, where and when?
Today, in the woods here, the trillium have a set of leaves just two or three inches off the ground. Weeks from blooming...

Nope, I just thought that you were the only member with a broad knowledge base that could answer all the questions of flora and fauna in our region.

Yes, that is a Red Trillium and the photo was taken on Saturday along a WTS in the Pa Pocono area. There were quite a few of that size on the north slope facing south on the stream ravine. The Trout-Lilys were also present, along with emerging fiddleheads.

The fishing was also good for WILD brown trout on gaudy dry flies.

You're an observant and perceptive guy...
Of course, I knew that's what you meant...;)

We've got the Trout Lillies blooming and the ferns popping out...
but the Trillium is barely started.

So, over on Garden State Trout, there is a thread, a fellow is claiming this to be a wild SBRR fish, thoughts?

here is a picture of the "wild fish"

Not only is it a stocked fish, but I would guarantee the origin to be Musky Trout Hatchery. Vern's browns are the most recognizable hatchery fish I have ever seen. Not only do they lack red spots, but they often show touching black spots that appear more like a line than two spots close together. Sort of like you would see on some tiger trout which he also raises at that hatchery (at their 2nd facility).

Both my white and purple trilliums are blooming and were when I left NJ for my upper D trip last Tuesday. I stole my purples from my old hunting camp in Potter, PA. The whites just popped up on their own in my natives garden which is fenced from deer.

I don't know what you guys are smoking, that's totally a wild fish. Those fins got chewed off by predatory chubs.

you know that this is sad, but true. I remember when GST was the baby site to big brother and now it's all about trout magnets and stocked rainbows. it's so pity:crap:
