Ron, why don't you send me a bamboo rod? I like the wraps in that dark red/maroon color but not brown. I like a cigar grip with a nice swelled butt section. I'll let you choose the rest of the components, I trust you.

7 1/2 for a 4wt.

Please don't engave it but full intermediate wraps would add a nice touch. Of course it's free, you didn't expect me to pay for your time and hardware and out of pocket expenses, expertise, skills, dedication, did you?

Of course I asked for it. I know a skilled craftsman when I see what he's produced. I didn't really expect it to fall into my lap for free though. But since you offered it for free, I'll take you up on it.

I watched a show on Bamboo rods once. I think the person explaining the process said it could take up to 80hrs of work to produce 1 rod. That's a lot of work. I'll be sure that the outcome of your time, hard work, and skills are proudly displayed on NEFF.

And no, I didn't get it just yet but when I do, I'll post pictures of it hopefully sometime in the Spring!

I would engrave it Ron. It seems to me he wishes to sell it. But note how he didnt ask you to DONATE a rod for his profitable origination. :)

Hey, how about a free rod for a neighbor.

Don't they come outta the woodwork for free shit...

What's it been? Two years?

Ron, when you perfect the making of the "Bamapplewoodboo" rod, I'll be the first in line... but of course, I'll be supplying all of your raw materials... ;)

John,
I have to try and save some of the apple wood for the bamappleboorods.
I tend to use it all in the smoker, a man's got eat don't he.:)

Not sure what use apple wood is for anything...

But you could offer Ron some apples...

For apple pie.

He could give em out with his rods and ask his customers...

"would you like an apple pie with that?"

If nothin' else, it could be used instead of endangered Gaboon Ebony for reel seats. ;)

Let me offer you a word of advice from experience. When you're ready to purchase a bamboo rod, research the hell out of the rod maker and find out if he delivers and if he delivers in a timely manner. I had a guy tell me he'd have my rod back to me in 4-6 weeks (for repairs) and let's see, March-Aug is how long? A tad longer than 4-6 weeks.

Here's my writeup on him: http://www.njflyfishing.com/vBulletin/f118-bamboo-rods/t3313-tim-zietak-bamboo-rods.html

It's been over 5 years since I wrote that. Now if you run over to google real fast and type the guys name into the little search box, you'll notice that my review of the experience with him is still #2. He called me on a few occasions and asked me to remove it and one time even told me he was going to have his attorney contact me. As you can see, it's still here. Anyway, another guy I can remember was this dude:

http://www.njflyfishing.com/vBullet...2162-john-niemiera-bamboo-rods.html#post15149

Put his name like this "john niemera bamboo rods" into the google search bar and he comes up and numero uno. People have contacted me about him too. NOPE... I wouldn't recommend him.

Find out about a deposit. I'm under the impression that a reputable rod maker will NOT take a deposit. John Niemera has taken way longer to build rods than he should have. That's of course a matter of opinion but (*alleged - when you tell someone 8 months for a rod and it's going over a year... there is something to be said about the builder).

Hey look... everyone runs into issues. If Tim told me there was a death in the family, take an extra month, I totally understand. Maybe if you had to order parts and they were delayed... I could understand that too but to just keep stringin someone along while you're out doing whatever while you could be doing what you're supposed to be doing... well, that's just wrong.

Ronbo from this site builds rods. I don't know his time frame but you can be sure a review of my free rod will make it to the front page of google as soon as I get it. I don't know if he takes a deposit or not but if he did, I probably wouldn't use him. Sorry Ronbo, but that's just me.

There are too many other known makers out there who simply don't take deposits (Sweetgrass) for example sent my father a rod without taking a dime from him. I just can't have my money in limbo for roughly 6-8 months (which I believe is the average turn around time for the local guys).

Good luck and if/when you do purchase a bamboo rod, please be sure to post about your rod and experience (good/bad) right here. Put the rod builders name in the thread title.. That will get him to the top #5 in a google search but probably #1.

Ok... because I like to brag... take a look at this one (Hyde Drift boat review). That comes up for us as #2. Hyde eventually made good on that one so they're ok in my book.

That's all for tonight.

Ron will give you a rod, depending on how busy he is, but you should have it by mid to the end of summer 2012.

He is do what he said he would do and that is give you a free bamboo rod made by him.

Hey, if it wasn't for NEFF his rod building exposure wouldn't be what it is today.

I think mine was his 9th or 10th rod, most he kept, so getting plugged by me on here really helped build his brand.

As stated, he will have a new rod built by him for you by late summer.

When you get it, put it into your father's hands for his opinion.. that man really knows bamboo rods!

are u friggin kidding me?? a free bamboo rod?? i dont know u guys on a personal level..not yet anyway but i cant believe that..

Well, we have to take Ron at his word.

DC asked and Ron said yes to making him a FREE (at no charge) bamboo rod.

There is no mistaking the posts.
