Went fishing the past two nights at a lake in the Beaverhead Nat. Forrest and fishing was really good. Went with a few others that just wanted to some along and camp and we had a few visitors.

Night 1- by the camp fire eating and we did some burgers and a fox came up to us and we had to scare this thing off for 45 minutes before he would let off. coming within 5 feet of us to try to get some food out of us. Must have been a common campsite fox doing this all summer long. Then he came back around midnight with some buddies and raided the site with us there jumping up on the picnic table taking bags of chips while the others were distracting us by the fire. It was quite witty. Lots of laughs whatever, did not really mind too much.

Night 2- during the day we get out and do a good day of fishing. decided to keep two fish and did everything right for bear safety at the campsite, but did not think of the boat where the fish were being stored. Woke up at 430 to some grunting and look down the mtn from our campsite where my driftboat is beached and see a grizz and her cub tearing apart my boat, well I caught them at the end so after I scared them off I had seats torn gunnel guards ripped off oars thrown 15 feet away from my boat.

Ill try to get some after photos of the seats later on when I have time. But it was a very exciting camping trip

Don't take this the wrong way but, that fox and bear will be dead some time because of campsites like that.

By leaving out your food the fox will continue to raid people's camp sights until he's shot.

Now I don't know what was up with your boat, but I suspect he found food or something unattended to. Likely someone else's boat started it and yours finished it.

Campsites and boats should be kept spotless and food free to prevent this. Sorry but that's the way I see it.

Most likely you had fish scent in the boat. That is what attracted the griz. It happened to a buddy of mine in alaska and the bear shredded the watermaster he rented. He did not wash off the salmon slime he had in his boat. Sorry to here about your boat.

Ehh its not too much money on the boat, but there was no food on the boat so it was def the fish scent which is hard to cover when camping and catching a crap ton of fish. It was mostly an exciting situation if anything.

Yeah I just read this again. "campsites like this"...you mean the one's that you eat at? I am very bear aware, and had our food out while I was eating dinner then it is back in the bear box at the campsite mr. knowitall
