Wild January Brookies on Dries

Since it's snowing like a mofo right now, it seems like a good time to post a fishing report.

Got out to a small TP stream yesterday that I was trying for the first time. Really liked this spot, and although there was still a bit of snow on the ground and some ice at the stream's edges, the water was flowing nicely.

Caught my first trout of the year on a BH Prince. Always like starting the year with a wild brookie!

While continuing to nymph for a 2nd fish, a trout came up and hit the indicator. That's it! Time to switch to a dry fly, even though I didn't see anything hatching.

Put my favorite dry fly on the tippet......

And caught this whose stomach looked like he was feeding pretty regularly.

Landed 2 more on dries before calling it quits for lunch.

Glad I got out when I did since this weather doesn't look to be yielding opportunities any time soon.

It's a 7 ft. 4 wt progressive taper built by my good friend George.

Price....free! Well he did get a nice 15 year old bottle of single malt in the deal, but it was unsolicited.

The wraps are pretty straight-forward. The rod is built for function instead of beauty, but that's the kind of rod that I find beautiful.

You've actually cast this rod at Ronbo's pond, and you've met George.

I'd like to start splitting cane, but I'll have to wait down the road for retirement days to devote the time. For now, it's just this one bamboo rod unless my pockets get unexpectedly deeper.... or George needs more scotch.
