Where to fish near Flanders

Hello everyone,

i will ill be staying in Flanders for 3 weeks for work and I am wondering if anyone can help me out with places to fish. I will be out there the last week of July and first two weeks of August. I am from Pittsburgh pa and like to fish for trout bass and carp. I am assuming the waters would be warm for trout but I don't know the area. If anyone can guide me in a direction of where to go that would be greatly appreciated. I prefer streams and rivers and if anyone would like to meet up I would also be interested in that. I don't need anyone's honey holes just some places to go. I was out here two years ago in April and did good in the stocked waters but I don't know if those streams will be holding trout or bass. Thanks for all the help

Lake Musconetcong for bass and panfish, the upper Musconetcong River above Stephens State Park for smallies, largemouth and panfish, Tilcon Lake in Allamuchy Mountain State Park for largemouth and landlocked salmon, Lake Hopatcong for most anything that swims in warm water, Budd Lake for bass and pike, the list goes on. All in or near Flanders. Depending on stream temps, good to very good trout fishing in the lower half of the Musconetcong (a.k.a. the Musky), the upper South Branch Raritan River, their tribs, the Pequest below the state hatchery in Oxford, etc. More water in a half hour radius than you could fish in a lifetime. Aeroflex Lake for bass, pike, trout, etc. is another one close by.

Thanks for the input. I am looking forward to exploring some new water. You say lake Tilcon has landlocked salmon. I fished them in New York tribes but never landlocked. Do you throw streamers for them and are you able to catch them from shore or wade able waters or do you need a boat. That is something new I would like to try

Believe it or not, this time of year the salmon in Tilcon will rush from the depths they suspend in, beneath wherever the thermocline is, and charge herring at the surface. My son & I witnessed this as we fished from shore a couple of weeks ago. Then two guys in a canoe paddled over to where the mayhem erupted. Ten minutes later, we heard the whoops & saw one of the guys lift the salmon high out of the net. You need a kayak or canoe and probably a wheel cart. The Musconetcong flows right by Tilcon. I haven't fished the Musky for smallmouths, but I know the South Branch near Flemington is good if you get in and wade. All you really need are five inch Senko-type plastic worms. They cast a mile, but try to keep your casts short so you don't have to mend so much line, unless a stretch is really slow and you cast to spooky bass in shallows that rush a worm.

Oh, and if you want to fly fish smallmouths, I've done especially well with stone fly nymphs. I guess a Wooly Bugger bead head would do just as well, but they do like the nymphs and even as small as #14.

FUCK AREOFLEX

Reading that Lake is on par with Hellen Keller trying to tell you her favorite color... (besides Velcro) "NSJFIFJFHFFKJFHKJFHDHFDHFKJF"

I also prefer the crick beside 206 as you head down toward "The After"

Flanders Brook which has all 3 trout reproducing in that one stream. Not the most scenic or quiet stream you'll ever fish :)

And Simms, stay away from the After, that's my spot (I live a mile away)

Thanks again for the help. A wild rainbow is one fish that is still on my bucket list and one I would love to catch. There aren't many streams around my way that produce wild bows. Hoping not to step on anyone's toes but what is the "AFTER"

It's an old fashioned char broil joint in Flanders (Mt. Olive Twp.) on route 206 northbound. Burgers and fries and other things that will clog your arteries and put a smile on your face for cheap. Ice cream for the kids to boot and Flanders Brook is right there. Downstream a mile is the upper South Branch Raritan and some other wild trout streams if you look for them.

LOL!

Rusty I've frequented the After, most in the early AM, as I made my way to the gorge, for their wonderful coffee cake and coffee.

My uncle lives 2 miles away down on Bartley. The property with the house and huge shop, somewhat hidden by the man-made berms out front near the road...(right across from the public fishing access) Stop in and say hi if youre ever bored. The gun collection he has is quite impressive, youd like it.
