Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

What to Wear

On cold days fishing, what do wear. What kind of gloves if any and at what temp. Where do you shop for your hitech cloths if you don't want to break the household budget?

There really isn't any need to break the budget on winter clothes. Dress smart by layering, but don't over do it or you'll end up sweating. If you're warm when you step out of the house or the car, you're wearing too many layers and you'll overheat when you begin your activity. I wear fleece pants and a fleece sweater under my wind jacket and waders, two pairs of wool socks. Wool retains most of its insulating value when wet, and fleece sheds water pretty easily, so if you take a dip you won't have to worry about hypothermia setting in as quickly. I always keep an extra set of clothing in the car as well just in case. I don't tend to wear gloves unless I'm fishing the surf because I feel they limit my dexterity too much. I use those small chemical hand warmers in my pockets instead. You can hit up Wal-mart or one of the other chain stores and not break the budget.

Mike is right about wool. Fingerless rag wool gloves are good down to thirty degrees. Below that, I weenie out. You can always stick your hand in the water to warm 'em up
