Westchester & Putnam

De nalgas!
Well after 8 years, my special lady and I have decided to part ways. This means I have an opportunity to get out of the projects and live somewhere that allows me to fish every day if I want to. I work in Westchester, and I'm trying to decide on where I want to live up there. So far I'm considering Yorktown Heights, Pleasantville, Mahopac, and Mount Kisco, which would give me a 30-40 minute commute and 15-30 minutes from fishing. Any (cheap) towns worth checking out up there?

By the way, I'm using Croton TU's map as a reference in my search.

Kyle, good for you on moving out of the city.

I would suggest moving further west, like Middletown. That'd be pretty cheap, and give you good access to the Catskills.

Good luck whatever you decide.

Thanks man. I dream of living close to the Catskills, but the drive to work would be a bit much. It will be nice being 90 minutes from the Neversink though!

I personally live in Brewster, and I can walk within 10 minutes to one of the resovoirs and part of the East Branch. You are unfortunately going to find that most of the places that you've listed are not terribly cheap. (It's all relative of course) If you want to be in the middle of the action, you porbably will have to come a little bit further north, say Somers or Katonah but of the ones you listed Bedford and Mt.Kisco are probably good gateways to the Croton waters. Just my two sense. Good luck with the search!!!

If you can, pick up this months' edition of ON The Water (New York Edition). You'll find my article on fly fishing the Titicus.
