Tying the Extended Body Light Cahill

Matt Grobert

6/0 Olive Danville
Back in the 70's, Harry Darbee came out with his Two-Feathered mayfly pattern, and ever since then I have experimented using the technique to create my own semi-realistic patterns. The use of the arching woodduck flank feather to imitate the tail and abdomen always looked so right to me for imitating mayfly adults.

You may have seen my March Brown dry I tie this way that is a combination of tradition Catskill dry and this tailing technique. This pattern combines the tailing technique with one of my favorite materials, Snowshoe Rabbit Foot. It is incredibly durable, fairly easy to tie, and works very well. You can adapt the pattern by changing size and body color to imitate green drakes, brown drakes and other large mayfly patterns. Hat's off to Tim Flagler for another great production.

Another sweet tye Matt ! Great tye for those times you need a gentle presentation in tight quarters . I'll have tye some of these up for my box and give them a go. Thank you for posting this !

I forgot to mention.....if you don't have woodduck flank, you can use mallard and even light teal will work, too.

All I can say is WOW! Looks awsome and so simple that even I can tie this one up right away. Thx. much, Matt and Tightline Productions!

took a stab at this pattern.. was much easier than anticipated and a really cool looking. obviously the dubbed body could use some work, but hopefully will catch some fish regardless.

Matt, you make the best, most easily followed tying videos out there, so as always, thank you for sharing.

Nicely done. I'll take a dozen in cream #12, tan #10.........

Thank you. I just do the tying, Tim does the editing and production, which is second to none.

My production company will be releasing it's first tying video shortly, to destroy the competition.

Let's see what you say when I release my video.
