Turkey opener in NJ today

A zone 7 dirt nap for this gobbler early this morning. I had 4 gobblers going nuts on their roost only to fly down across the road from me and shut up. It took 1 1/2 hours to bring them over, but when they did come, the 2 gobblers I called in were silent. This one stopped at 35 yards and is now dinner. Hope some of you guys are getting out there.

I was invited up to hunt my buddy's place near Cooperstown (forget which county), but I'll be away on an annual trout trip to the WBD. His farm is loaded with birds. Good luck, Thursthouse!
Haha, thats right where I head up for the opener May 3. We are outside Canadarago Lake.

So pissed, this is the first year in many where I missed the NJ lottery and my zone is always the first to sell out. Theres tons of activity around this year too. Been seeing a nice flock near the house with a big old Tom and theres a bunch of single and double Jakes running around the woods here too. Now I gotta put all my eggs into the NY weekend basket.

Glad you had such a great start, Rusty!

Fishing or hunting?

I think that BigBow is talking about the Fly Creek Cider Mill.

And those fish are chubs and carp that are continually fed day old doughnuts.
Not in the pond, in the stream. Maybe there are some of those too and I dont doubt they get fed, but I def saw some big ass trout in that creek.

YOU are MISTAKEN, SIR!

But, did you see the mountain lion den up the hill there? It is hard to see through all the poison ivy and wild rose bushes...

Im not 12 and know what trout look like. Plus, there are trout in every surrounding creek, why not there?

JEEPERS.

Wink, wink...

NONE of the creeks up here have big trout...

Wink, wink...

But we do have mountain lions, poison ivy AND wild roses...
and scary locals with banjos...

Have you made it to either of these places while you were in the area?:

Cooperstown Brewing Co. in Milford, Ny (I heard they were just sold, so I don't know what's going on with them...)

Ommegang — Brewer of Belgian-Style Beers in America | | Brewery Ommegang ⎯ Everything for a Reason

I've tried both, but never visited either brewery. Ommegang is some good stuff. Maybe I will hit it up this trip if we get lucky with the birds and have time. Just put the finishing touches on the trip and will be just south of the Richfield Springs area May 1-4 for the opener. I'll let you guys know how it goes.
