Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

Toured NJ trout streams this weekend.

Hit the SBR, Musky and BFB W/my 2 boys this week end. KLG Fri afternoon and Sat morning, musky Sat evening and BFB all day Sun. Fri and Sat I had the kids high sticking and Sun we mixed it up a bit and got into some good action on top.

The Gorge gave up some fish for sure but all cookie cutter bows. The Musky was insane Sat evening though, the kids each put double digits in the net. The few times I got to hold a rod netted me a near 20" bow that had to be 8" across and fought like hell along with a beautiful wild brown around 14" that worked over my 11' 3wt but good!

Sun was a real treat though stumbling into steady risers right outta the gate. Both the kids got a few on top w/Groberts touch dubbed caribou caddis. Fish were a little tougher in the bigger pools so a POP dropper was used to net a few more(I'll post a link later) 1 a very very nice bow. Late in the afternoon we found a hole with a bazillions fish stacked up in it and we let the kids go to town for awhile.

Around 3 we broke for lunch and blew $120 sampling Greek food (4 of us, 2 adults) and god was it worth every penny!

The rest of the evening was spent checking out new water and seeing how much damage jeep trails can inflict on a jetta sport wagon.

The only casualty was my 2 day old 11' 3wt esn being snapped in half by my 11yr old. He was alone when it happened so what actually transpired will never be known. That's three rods halved in less than a year for that kid!

I burned !!MILES!! of tippet w/ those brats this weekend!!!!!!!!!!

Use dyed yellow present tail for the head instead of black. That is what I use in my pattern. If you look at them thay have a yellow- black mottled head. Bright green ( apple green) bodies are deadly in the south branch. I have been using the Rhyacophila all season and I will continue to do so until it stops working. I throw it in the fast white water and It is the productive fly this time of the year. I have caught bows, bookies and browns in the gorge this season . I was in the fast white water where the river splits around the island above the trestle pool on Saturday and could not believe how many fish were in that section. I lost count.

I've been highsticking with a 10' 3 wt and long leader this year and have been pretty successful but find it limits me a little bit. Its tough to fish slower pools and I'm at a disadvantage when bugs start hatching a fish are taking flies at the surface.

Have you found this to be the case? Do you switch rods for dry fly fishing or just change the leader?

Just change the leader. I have a 10' 4wt esn that'll cast drugs just fine. I don't know about the 11'er yet and I won't anytime soon cause ITS IN 6 PIECES!!:bang:

Do some casting in my direction if you're twisting up some cannabis patterns.

I have used my 10'3wt to cast dries also. I just swap out the leader which is a lot quicker than walking back to the car to swap rods. The only thing I have to do is slow down my casting stroke with the longer rod. The 10' rod actually cast dry flies pretty nicely.

I've been fishing a 10ft 3wt lately, and I agree, change the leader and you should be fine unless the wind is up. I switch to a Harvey leader for dries and it has been fine.
