The Fly Fishing Industry Battles the Economy
No matter where we hide, economic news will find us…So it is not surprising that some of the industries big guns are reeling….
Now if I lost my job, I probably wouldn’t run out and buy the latest fly rod, but my fishing time would increase (as long as the unemployment lasts and before the divorce papers are served)…..

Youth Participation in the Outdoors is declining, Wii sales are UP<O></O>
The Outdoor Foundation released its 2008 Outdoor Recreation Participation Report…The results are not surprising…Youth participation is down…Is it video games, the internet or maybe parents are just too busy working two jobs to take the family fishing or camping….Well at least they can watch it on TV..

The lack of youth participation was very evident at the Fly Fishing Show this weekend.........very few yoots wandering around. The average age of the attendees appeared to be well over 30.

I can't imagine being a kid and NOT being outside when I had free time.....I made the time to be outside - skipped school, church, family stuff so I could fish.

Thanks for the interesting articles Dan.

You know if we Wii comes out with a flyfishing game its all over....I can see it now virtually fish all your favorite streams from the comfort of your easy chair. Practice your casting in our virtual practice pond. Pursue virtual Permit in the Keys. No long travel lines, pushy guides, or crowded streams. Spend the day on the Madison and then sit down for a nice dinner with the family...:rofl::rofl:

Hey wait a minute anyone got the phone number for Nintendo.:rofl:

Nintendo is a little late...

FlySim Fly Fishing Game - Features

This one has been around for years now and I'll have to tell yah... It's pretty damn good.

There was a demo copy available, so you can start playing today for free.

Damn thats good but I think the Wii can do better. Maybe they can make a wii flyrod with simulated drag. You could change the spools virtually if you wanted to run a sink tip or teeny line. You need the accelerometer features of a wii to make this fly. But this is cool and the price is right:D

hahahaha... Now that wouldn't be a bad idea at all, I didn't even think of that. This might be a good thing though... Instead of playing star wars and waving those wii wands around as light sabers, why not have it instruct on fly fishing. At least it might get them motivated enough to want to try the real thing.

Well said Matt, lucky for you folks some of the more refined college students find the time to come out to the show, meet some nice people, chit chat and B.S., and more importantly find all too many ways to spend the tuition money. Matt I know exactly where you're coming from with making time to get out and fish.
