Hi, im going fishing up at the beaver kill river next weekend, I was just wondering how they are doing up there, and what flys to use.

I have never been there before, or fished a river of that size, so dose anyone have any good tips for me?

Thanks

Don't be intimidated the river isn't that big pick a spot and go fishing there are fish everywhere ... There might be another problem however the water is getting to the point where it is unfishable do to high water temps so take a thermometer with you. Other than that you should do fine .. Should be olives in the morning sulpurs , isos and caddis towards the evening and of course some spinner falls if you like to fish into the dark. Hope this helps you out ! And good luck on your trip !:)

Early morning is your best bet, this weekend should be a great weekend to fish it.

Hit the Bkill in the morning and evenings then fish a tailwater of your choice midday.

Good luck

East branch at Harvard hit 73-74 degrees today which means the BKill was at or well above that mark today . If it rains tomorrow it may be ok to fish it this weekend.I have noticed once it hits these temperatures the fish are in survival mode sticking close to the bottom and not feeding. And the ones that take and are played out usually die .When it gets like this I generally don't fish these streams until they have cooled down and the fish have recovered from the stress of the hot water for several days sometimes weeks as there are plenty of cold water streams around to fish.Just a thought ..:)

Yea thats ture, the last two days have really put a damper on the freesontes, i usually stop fishing most larger freestones after the drakes are done with.

The WB is more fun anyways!

So you would say, if the water temp is over 65 70 its not worth fishing?

Also my fly selection so far hairs ears and pheasant tails size 14 and 16, elk hair caddis size 14 and 16, blue winged olives size 16, and some olive woolly buggers what do you guys think? should I bring scuds?

thanks

65 is fine. 70 is my cut-off.

You're better off fishing in a PA stream like the LIttle Lehigh. It runs very cold even on the hottest days. You'll see lots of fish willing to take your flies.

Thats some funny shot there DC! But also true..:) Ff you can launch a drift boat at the parking lot Rod use to do it lol.. I 've seen some stinktoons there as well I think Cdun sent them there :)

you can launch a boat at the cairns pool boat launch..mite scrape a little if the flows are low..nice float from there to horton..sumone said they were into a few atlantics in the spring too..but just juvies :fish:

I've really wanted to float the bkill when its at like 2,500 ,but dont know of a place where you could sneak a trailer in. I 100% agree boats should not be on the river at fishable flows, but when its blown out it wouldn't bother anyone and I'm sure you could move some big fish on streamers. There's a lot of deep pools in the bkill that only get fished with dry flies where some big boys could hang and never be bothered.

Dude... I had no idea that was you floating past me the other day. You gained a bit a weight buddy. Anyway, I was disappointed to see that she wasn't in the bikini you promised. Did the other thing work out in a channel somewhere. :)

If the water is over 70, you shouldn't fish unless you plan on eating them. You know, there is other fishing up there besides trout. The lower river is loaded with smallies, and they are a blast to catch. I can't believe the number of dipshits I saw up there this weekend trying to catch trout on the lower river in 72-73 degree water. The smallmouth were where it was at.
