Just returned from Colorado Springs for 2 weeks with the wife and kids, staying with in-laws. Got one day to fish, so I got a guide and went out on the South Platte. This was my first time with a guide anywhere, and first time fishing in the west. Went to the South Platte in South Park, and then to 11 Mile Canyon. I'm a medium skilled caster at best, but the guide was great. He had me on the fish all day. In South Park we caught a number(8?) of small ones, and a load more either got off or I spooked with poor casting. But the guide didnt say anything negative. Just gave me good instructions so I learned a lot. Then at 11 Mile we went to a private area owned by the Boy Scouts. It had some big fish, at least by my standards. I caught a 16" brown and an 18" rainbow. The 2 biggest trout I ever caught anywhere. Plus some other smaller ones. Almost all were on grasshoppers. Maybe 1 or 2 on caddis.
An unexpected plus was, when I told the guide I was from NJ, he said "I hope you're a Yankee fan". I said yes, I've been a Yankee fan for 45 years. He said thats good, because his uncle(his fathers brother) is Goose Gossage. He then told me some cool Yankee stories. He was an all around great guy who had me on fish all day, and taught me a load about casting, mending, setting, and how to fish the currents. A great day!
Now, if I can figure out how to post pictures, I'll do so.
