Salmon River 3/5-6

Hit the salmon river this weekend and things were good considering flows were at 1250cfs. Small green nymphs/eggs worked best along with flashback pt's in an 8. Landed 8 for the weekend and broke off/lost probably double that. I'm definitely going to be more strategic about where I fish next time, hooking up close to a fast run definitely lowers your chances of landing the fish you hook. Alot of fish were moving up river on saturday and I assume fishing should be good once flows drop a bit. It was nice up there this weekend as crowds were not a problem due to a cold, windy rain coming down most of the weekend. Here are a few pics

Stopped by the catskills on the way home and things looked pretty cold.

The fishing camp sure didnt look like the season opener for hendricksons was right around the corner

Fishing will be better once the water drops?! We need more water. 1500 cfs or higher!! It aint going down til late spring ealry summer with all the snow they have up on the hill.

Five more inches of snow yesterday, Pineville gage (@0600 when I last looked) was 2,000 cfs.
DSR & Whitaker's report lots of fresh chrome coming in the river with these high flows.
Fish reported all throughout the river now.

I will be on my way up for the weekend.

Huh? There is no island down at muskrat in 385...so there definitely isn't one down there in high water.

He probably fished the LFZ.

got that fish down by the barrel pool, from there down to the lower wire pool was fishing well for me that weekend

I have seen a island JUST above the bend at the actual MUSKRAT hole...Was in the summer though...Should have known with the higher than avg. water right now there would be no island...my bad...

In that case, good..Keeep that spot fresh... Love swinging speys just above the start to the bowvines
