Rod build questions

So now I wanna build a rod (I want/need 2 sage rods - an 5wt tcr and a 0wt).

So my questions, I noticed that there are two different types of guides (snake and stripper), is there a casting difference between the two? And there are also different sizes of strippers (not that one ... I'm talking about flyfishing here), What's that all about?

Lastly, Could you recommend a good book & video ?

Tommy, did you already purchase the TCR? Did you try it out? That rod isn't for everybody. I tried the rod and didn't like it at all. It was the equivelant of fishing with a broom stick. No play at all. I'm not sure what you're going to be doing with the rod, but I believe it was made for bonefishing, Stealhead, and Salmon. I wouldn't bring this to your local spring creek or even the Delaware.

I apologize if your intentions are different from what I just explained, but just in case you were planning on using this rod in PA, forget it, it's way overkill for any fishing you're going to do around here unless you're in the ocean.

I just build a spinning rod. Easier then it seems, took a while though, but fun. The only book which i could find was on building fly rods it's "Fly Rod Building Made Easy; A complete step-by-step guide to making a high quality fly rod on a budget" by Art Scheck, about $25. This book was the biggest help i had through the whole project, great pics and helpful hints. It explains everything you need to know to make a real nice rod and easy to read.

The stripper guide is the first guide after coming out of the reel. It looks like the same as a spinning rod guide. The rest above it should be snake guides. On St. Croix's website is a general guide to the sizes and spacing to be used on different length blanks.
