Reward Offered in New Jersey Bald Eagle Shooting
Authorities are seeking information leading to the conviction of the person or persons responsible for shooting and injuring a bald eagle found in Pittstown, New Jersey. The Humane Society of the United States and The Humane Society Wildlife Land Trust are offering a reward of up to $5,000 for this information, in addition to a $2,500 reward from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

According to the USFWS, the wounded eagle was found in the Shy Creek residential development of Pittstown on December 7, 2015. An examination revealed that the eagle had been recently shot. The eagle sat perched in a tree for several days with a severely broken leg, before rescuers could capture the bird and take it to a rehabilitation center.

Terri Edwards, spokeswoman with the USFWS, said: “Shooting a bald eagle is a serious crime and we urge anyone with information about this case to come forward.”

Kathleen Schatzmann, New Jersey state director for The HSUS, said: “This senseless shooting of our national symbol is a serious crime and we are appalled at the blatant cruelty involved. We are grateful to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife for their diligent efforts to bring the offender to justice.”

Shooting an eagle is a violation of two federal laws: the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act, as well as the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. Someone convicted under those laws could face imprisonment of up to one and a half years with maximum fines of $100,000 and $15,000, respectively.

Anyone with information about this case should call the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Office of Law Enforcement in Elizabeth, New Jersey at (908) 787-1321, or 1- 844-FWS-TIPS (397-8477).

All I can say is what scumbag would do this besides Ted Nugent....

What I'd like to know is... If the eagle was up in a tree, how did they know its leg was broken!

Well, I would guess from the context of the article, that it was perched in the same spot for a few days, and when they got it they found it had a broken leg....or it was perched in a tree like a Flamingo...

Ted doesn't shoot bald eagles. You may not like him, but no need to disparage him over something like this. This incident wasn't any hunter but some scumbag that needs to be brought to justice.

I like some of Ted's music, I did read an article a few years ago about him shooting hawks in flight with a pistol on his ranch, just to prove he could, but who knows what is true on the interwebs these days...I neither like or dislike the boob....

The antis hate his guts because he is such an in-your-face gun rights person with lots of visibility. I don't like some of the things he is for such as high fence hunts (i.e. - "canned hunts") and some other things, but I love his in your face attitudes about the 2nd Amendment. As for his music, I was never a big fan. I can only name one song and I can live without it. :)

I like that he hunted wild boar in Texas(where they are completely overpopulated) with a machine gun from a helicopter...:guns:what dick!:):guns::guns:
They called it population control....I would just poison their water...you know, put them to sleep...

Yes, but he is far, far, far from the only one doing this in Texas! That poor state is completely overrun with wild pigs, and the state has had to turn to marksmen shooting fully automatic and semi automatic weapons fired at a steep downward angle from helicopters while chasing them out of cover into the open. If states aren't more careful, all of us will experience what Texas and many other states are now confronted with when it comes to wild hogs. They destroy entire ecosystems and chase off native species. A bad critter that needs to be stopped. NJ has a small population down south that is open to hunting during deer season. Farm escapees. Ted did a service by telling the story of how bad things have gotten with hogs in the South.

Look out PA...
"At first we felt like we were looking for a needle in a haystack," says Harris Glass of the federal Wildlife Services of the search-for-pigs study launched by his agency and the state agriculture department. The Pennsylvania Pork Producers Council helped provide funding.

"It was kind of shocking what we've stumbled across," says Glass. "It's a lot like a ticking bomb."

Breeding populations of hogs were found in Bedford, Bradford, Butler, Cambria and Tioga counties - in areas near pig-hunting operations.

An estimated 1,000 wild pigs are living in the woods of Cambria-Bedford counties and more than 200 have been shot there by hunters this winter, Glass reports.

The nearest reports of wild hogs to Lancaster County are from Montgomery County. But officials are worried about escapes from hog-hunting operations and there is an unfenced one on an island in the Susquehanna River in Conoy Township.

One reason officials fear the wild hog population could explode so quickly is the prolific nature of the beasts.

They can produce litters of eight to 12 young twice a year. Not even bears and coyotes are likely to prey on a tusked pig of any size so their only predators would likely be man, officials point out.

I was a guest at a haughty-taughty dinner event a few years back where the guest speaker, a noted and retired wildlife biology professor was the presenter. He said there are only two kinds of states in the lower 48, those with wild hog problems and those that are about to have wild hog problems. PA did it right by opening up the season to kill them all. NJ currently only allows it during deer season. They should be unregulated - no limits and no hunting license required. Kill 'em before they take over. They out compete deer, bear, turkey, etc. etc. for food sources, are highly intelligent, nocturnal, and breed prolifically. Bad stuff in that combination. Plus they taste good, so kill some today.

What is ridiculous about the whole thing, from my point of view, is that companies are still considering "wild boar" a rare item, and charging a lot of money for the meat. I argue with the sales reps. all the time about the price...they are fucking delicious and should be shot and "ate" at any opportunity....I mean $15.00 a pound, my cost, for an overpopulated rat pig.....WTF?

lol is there a sign that reads "wild boar water only" deer, horses, and all others animals prohibited?

Ok, poison their food source.....anyway, wild boar can't read, neither can deer or horses...so your sign wouldn't work.:nose-picking:

That's the problem, everything is their food source. No way to do that and not kill native wildlife including possibly T&E species (hawks, eagles, etc.).

OK then, machine guns from helicopters it is I guess.....although rocket launchers and grenades may be more effective..
