Reel Jammed - Please Help

Hi All,

Hope you are all enjoying fishing season. I know I have been - have gone to a number of PA streams and rivers - what fun.

I went out yesterday for the first time in about 2 weeks. All set to go when I realized my reel was extremely tight. It is a good reel that my dad gave to me - a Marquis #6. It has been tight in the past so I followed proceedure. I was able to pull the reel up on the reel holder about 1/2 to 1 centimeter before I could pull it no further. At that point the reel was not turning or anything - I could not push it down nor pull it off the holder. I got home and sprayed some wd40 on it - now the reel is able to spin around but I am still not able to push it down or pull it off the holder. Does anyone have any suggestion as to what to do now? I am relatively new to this and don't want to break the reel - not sure how to proceed from here.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards

Omar

Sounds like you got the line or leader pinched between the spool and the reel body somewhere. Pull the spool out a little and check for pinching of the line or leader and try to work it out. This is commonly a problem if the reel is filled too much.

Thanks very much Jeff,

Unfortunately I am unable to move the rell body on the spool anymore... It seems to be jammed in on place. Again, the reel spins ok but I am not able to push it back down or pull it off. I have checked for pinched line and am unable to see any as of right now. I am thinking it is probably a bit of sand or dirt. Any further suggestions?

Call Cortland Line on Monday and ask for their reel repair department. They may be able to walk you through it. If not, they will probably ask you to send it in. Cortland does most of their hardy repairs on site, rarely having to send one to England.

the turn around is usually quick. Within a day or two.

fix jammed Marquis6

Omar - where are you located? I have a bunch of reels, including several Marquis's and other Hardys as well. If I can see the reel, I might be able to help.
