Pellet Hatch

De nalgas!
Yesterday I left work early to fish my usual stretch of water. There was a nice mix of bugs and though the fish were a bit sluggish, they were cooperative enough. After 30 minutes on one pool, the water suddenly erupted, exactly like a bluefish blitz. Big browns and rainbows everywhere. As I'm staring down into the water (thinking JACKPOT!) wondering if I should tie on a sparkle dun or big caddis pattern, I see what looked like Cocoa Puffs floating by.
What a disappointment, hatchery pellets. Apparently a club upstream feeds the fish. I know there are some pellet patterns out there, just never thought I'd need one.
I don't consider feeding fish in wild habitat to be very sporting (it's called littering), of course nobody ever said fishing clubs are ethical.

It's not littering, its called chumming and its not illegal.....then again, I guess you're not a carp fisherman. And its as perfectly natural to those trout you were fishing over as a Big-Mac is to my 500 pound patients. All in the way you look at things.

I took a trip to fish private water on Spring and Spruce Creeks last year with three other anglers who had been there before. It was my first trip to both streams. The other guys--who were in the know--literally killed the fish on squarish brown foam beetles. I think they caught ten for every one I caught on nymphs. I learned that they feed those fish and in retrospect, I'm certain the trout took their beetles for pellets.

I like to eat Big-Macs while riding my Jet Ski up and down the Delaware au naturel. I think that its very natural. Some of the people I run into seem to disagree.

So...when I throw all my unused food out the window for the stray cats, am I just chumming for kitties?

I agree..just PM me the stream and the location where you were fishing.. I plan to give that club a piece of my mind...BTW can you send me a couple of the pellet flies..you know just so I can educate myself:)
