After tying on a Renzettti vise the last few years, I discovered that I would like a heavier vise to tye the larger flies on . The purpose is to have a little larger jaw to stablize bigger hooks say size 1-3/0. And heavy enough to be stable when tightening down the thread to secure wings and materials on the longer hooks. When I finnaly caught up with my friend Al Ritt at Somerset, I took a look at the vise he was using and was instantly sold. It's the Peak rotary vise with the pedistal base.
So when I got home from Somerset I ordered one and it arrived yesterday. I've tied 5 or 6 dozen flies on it so far from size 18-2/0 and it is everything I thought it would be. Hefty enough for the big hooks and still handle down to a size 20 with ease . A long with plenty of room between the head and arm to tye a parachute fly comfortably . Also the full rotary option is smooth as can be ,And adjustment for the hook sizes is easy. I am very impressed with this vise . Especially at the price point I don't think you will find a better built vise and it's made in the USA! If you are in the market for a new rotary vise I would suggest both taking a look at and trying a Peak vise they are sweet.
