Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!
I am researching the purchase of my first bamboo rod and would really like to purchase locally from a Pennsylvania rod maker. Can anyone recommend a builder in PA?
Len Codella at Bamboo fly rods Bamboo fly rod makers fly reels often has his rods in stock, but none are currently listed. Very high quality work. Lots of them in use in SE/SC Pa. where he started out. He built them in a fly shop off the Turnpike in Lehighton, Pa. for several years in the 90's.
I've seen Goldenwitch on PCN and have been on heir website. Their rods are beautiful and priced accordingly. I bit far for me to reach. Any opinions on Dreamcatcher Rods or Niemiera?
Try Wyatt Dietrick, Dream Catcher Rods.He is based out of Chambersburg Pa.He also has a booth at the fly fishing show in Somerset N.J.His rods sell for 750 for a single tip and 1000 for 2 tips. waiting time is one year. His rods also come with a lifetime guarantee.
I have been on both the Dream Catcher and Niemiera site and think that I will probobly go with one of these 2 makers. One because of the price, and two because of the asthetics of their rods. Thanks for all the suggestions.
I have a 7' 4wt 2/2 Quad made by him, great rod. Have casted some of his other rods as well and like them. His turn around time isn't as long as some of the bigger name builder's, but he still puts out a quality rod. Google his name, I know he has a web site.
I have been an aquaitance of both John N. and Wyatt Dietrich from Dream Catcher rods. I knew John N. from the Earnest Schwiebert T.U. chapter in New Jersey. From a pure business perspective, I would recommend Wyatt. I have fished John's rods of a friend of mine and found nothing wrong with his craftsmanship, although I have other friends that have had unfortunate dealings though with John N. I am now part of the Falling Springs Chapter of T.U. and I would stand behind Wyatt and his work.
Thanks Jason for the honesty. I'm a complete novice when it comes to cane and when I finally do pull the trigger, I want to ensure that I get exactly what I envision. Also, I haven't robbed any banks lately so $$ is certainly a consideration. I think the $1200 range should get me what I am looking for. Are there any other makers you would suggest?
