Nikon D300 the envy of all others

I ordered my new D300 yesterday. This is one of the hottest digital cameras on the market right now and for good reason. The photographs this thing produces are stunning! I can't wait for April to roll around so I can hopefully bring to the site some awesome insect shots and wildlife pictures. I've slacked off of this for a while because my present camera D70, although still a kick-ass digital camera is now from a technical standpoint, is boring.

I have a few cameras for sale if anyone is interested.

All are Nikon.
D70 - Digital
N70 - Film
F100 - Film

If you've seen the insect photo's I've taken over the past 2 years, than you know what the Nikon D70 is capable of.
 
I've had the D200 for a couple years and love it. I use only fixed lenses and have the 14mm, 35mm, 50mm, and 85mm. I've got two SB-800 flash units and the wireless controller to fire them remotely. Now if only I could figure out how to use it all!

Actually, I've done pretty well. Had photos run in several magazines, including Newsweek.

I'm sure you'll love the D300. It's about the same file size but has some extra nifty features. I was a little disappointed that they still made it the smaller sensor, though. The D3 has the full frame.

I'm curious to hear how you do with noise, too. The D200 can be very noisy at anything over ISO 400.

I was looking at the D200 because you can pick them up for considerably cheaper than the D300 but from what I've read and have seen, the D300 outperforms the D200 in every aspect, including the noise item you refer to (which I've read plenty about). Should be able to shoot up to 1600 with little noise. Many people who wanted a new camera to accomodate their D200's are picking up the D300's and realizing how good they are then purchasing another D300 and selling the D200.

I need a new good lense. I've read a few reviews on the 70-300 Image Stabilization. A friend of mine has a Canon with a 70-300 2.8. That's an expensive lense. I'd like to get something like that for the Nikon but I have to wait for the right deal. If you know of a place I can get a good deal on a lense like the one I mention above, let me know.

I'll post a few samples when I get the D300. The D3 is $5000.00!!! I don't have that type of cash right now for a camera. I'd love to see the D300 with a full sensor too, but I've seen what this camera produces and have been very impressed.
 
I may want your D70. Tried to buy a D80 but it was bit too expensive. I have an N70 and some nice lenses. They are compatible, right? Let me know your price.

Well, we all know that its the lens that ultimately makes the shot. The body is just a lightbox with bells and whistles. In my book, you just can't beat the Canon EOS system. The have the best glass and the best flashes for the best bodies. Ask yourself when was the last time you saw a pro using a Nikon at a wedding....hmmm.

Anyway good luck with the Nikon, Dennis. I'm sure it will take fantastic shots. If you ever think about coming over from the dark side, let me know and I'll show you the way. :D
 
Have you ever looked into a body with the full frame. I have the a 20d and my neighbor has the 5d and it's like viewing a widescreen tv. I was suprised at the difference. I haven't been able to justify the additional cost though.

I haven't. The problem is that If I did, I might have hesitated a bit longer for $5000.00 to roll around and I kinda like what I saw with the D300 for far cheaper.

My next camera will have a full frame though.
 
I just picked up the new Nikon D700, which is the newest in the Nikon line. It has the same full-frame sensor of the $5,000 D3, but in the smaller body of the D300 (which has a half sensor). This means I can use my lenses at the correct focal length, and because it is a full frame sensor I can shoot at up to ISO 6400 with no noise! My D200 had considerable noise at ISO 400.

If anyone is interested in purchasing a decent camera body for use with Nikon lenses, my D200 is currently on ebay:

Can't wait to see your photos....I assume you take advantage of the ability to capture 14 bit images in RAW??
Then, of course, you need PS CS3 to process all that capability you just bought. (OK, I'm envious. But I'm still learning how to maximize my output quality with my Canon XTI...am still learning how to shoot RAW correctly.)

Does no one shoot film any more? I guess digital is easier shooting than setting up my 8x10 for a trout or a fly pic.

DENNIS... "DENISE" = SHE as in DEN EES!

With my D300, I find that I don't have to use photoshop too often. The only adjustments that I'm making are Levels and maybe Saturation. I hardly open photoshop anymore. I capture all of my images in RAW.
