New vehicle shopping. Input?

1st off,

A CAR IS OUT.

I need another truck or SUV.

I do love my hemi and I was thinking about a new one, but boy, they are fucking pricey...

My buddy just a got a limited toyota 4 runner..sick vehicle..plenty of storage space and would easily be able to tow my raft...

Any input?

If one says scion, cube, fiat, rogue, or quest, durango, or expedition, I will personally hunt them down and kill them...

Post away!!

All the cool kids drive Xterra's .

Or so I'm told....

Find a certified pre-owned VW Toureg diesel. If you can find a 2010 with the low-range transfer case, even better. It will change your opinion of diesel, and it has a ton of torque for towing.

All the homo's in my town drive them(not even joking...and by homos, I mean Johnny Utahs) They call them Charles. Everytime I see one, whether it be in Sparta or fucking California, I want to run them off the road in a fit of rage.

TZ,

I will check into them! Thank you sir!!

Charles WTF does that mean.

I have an xterra and I really like the piece of shit.

I've got a 2004 Honda CRV with 220K miles on it! It's only had two non-routine services....one water pump and the power lock on the drivers door. That car owes me nothing! I'm still driving it, and it runs great. I have a son with his permit, and will likely sell him the car next year when he gets his license. I'll be replacing it with another CRV....they're great in bad weather, have tons of storage space, decent clearance, and I understand the new models are getting even better gas mileage.

Just wondering...

If you "love your hemi", what's the point of a new one.
A vehicle is a tool, not a new dress. You don't need to replace it just to stay "in style". If you buy some wrenches, and a few instruments, and do your maintenance, a vehicle can last a long time.

In my case, vehicles were replaced when they became unusable, (usually from rust, and/or parts unavailable).
  • 1st vehicle - 1965 to 1975 (64 Valiant)
    2nd vehicle - 1975 to 2001 (75 Volvo)
3rd vehicle - 2001 to present (Ford Ranger)
Since I'm semi-retired now, and only drive a few miles a day, barring a bad accident, I don't expect to buy another.

If you've got too much money, use it to get something you don't already have (eg some classic "boo" rods).... or donate it to TU or NEFF.

Had an 89 4Runner and replaced that with a 95, which we sold about 3 years ago to my son's parents (and its still going). Both were excellent vehicles and highly recommended, although we really didn't do any off-road stuff with them.

The Raptor is nice (I love the trick Fox suspension), but its even more $$$$ than a Hemi. Plus, those beasts were meant to run free, jumping sand dunes at 80mph. Driving them on the street every day is like never taking a 911 over 50.

Buy a Jeep.....Grand Cherokee or wrangler...you can get the Hemi in the Grand Cherokee, but man that is a pricey ride. I've been driving wranglers since '95 and had great times...the newer ones(after '05) are really fucking ugly....I believe J.U. drives an ass rocket.....

what's an ass rocket?

Real trucks have 8 lugs and glow plugs.

Chris I think a Prius would suit you better than anything......it will show your sensitive side for the environment.

Oh......almost forgot......Hemi's are pieces of shit made in Mexico.

This is what a real truck looks like.

This is what real trucks do....at 20 MPG going 80mph South on 81 from Syracuse to the offroad park. It gets 24-26 mpg not towing anything depending on how fast I drive.

Or get this and go anywhere

Tobby,

My pops has a 4 door cummins 3rd genny, 3 chips stacked, injectors, bigger turbo and flowmaster american thunder....Love it. Walks all over msot cars on the road.. We use it if Im home to haul the sleds up north in the enclosed..can't even feel anything behind it...Then ocne I get in the hemi, im like wtf is this peice of shit.

However, with deisel prices, I am going to shy away. My pops can afford to fill it up, I can't lol

The Jeep grand cherokee laredos are sick as hell...

I love the srt8 however at 8mpg, not a chance in hell. hahaha

The wranglers are so fucking ugly, beetle can make himself look good in one...

I've had two Tacomas that got over 250k with no problem. Traded those in because the mileage was just uncomfortable. Held their value well too. Currently I have an '07 Tundra with 150K+ that runs great and tows even better. Except for gas, oil, tires, shocks and batteries I've never had any problems (knock on wood) with any of them. Two jeeps I've had barely made it to the 150K mark and then were worth nothing on trade or resale. Did have a Ford Bronco once upon a time that worked hard and well and only ever needed a transmission replaced. A Chevy truck I had ran forever too, it just rotted out around me.

I'll stick to a 'yota for the time being.

Simms,
IMHO it all depends on what you want or need? Remeber there is a diference between wants & Needs.
If i may concur I personally own a 1995 Toyota 4Runner SR5 4x4 with the 3.Slow engine great trail rig but for gas mileage this engine sucks, i also own a 1995 Toyota Tacoma SR5 4x4 with 3.4 engine an 5 speed trans great for a small truck an wheels the trails on spades, I also have a 2003 Toyota 4Runner SR5 4x4 with 4.0 engine this setup is a V6 that really kicks ass for gas mileage as well as good power, im not sure if its good for pullin sleds but for a driftboat it will be more than fine, other two vehicles i own are a 1969 Ford Mach 1 Mustang 351 no good gas milage is fast an loud though.
As far as im concerned it will be Toyota unless i need a V8 then it will be a 250 Super Duty.no more American scrap aside from that model Ford for me. If i may concur an you are wanting this ride for great mileage an reliability as well as space and function hands down the Toyota 4Runner is the best ya can buy especially for Hunting/Fishing wheels. Just my 2 cents. Good Luck Simms

its in need of new wiring , alil tlc will be gettin thrown into it this summer, i lost my job so im going to take a break fish hunt turkeys garden an rewire it from nose to tail she purrrrrrrrs like a raped prom queen

If your handy with a wrench Rover Disco I or II are super capable for getting to that secret place. They are not for the maintenance adverse.

A high mileage GWagen can be had reasonably and offers the same capability as a disco. Its a German army truck! The only prob is they are often all blinged out and they're heritage is hidden by wanta be gangsters.

Toyota Tacos are super reliable with tons of aftermarket support.

I have a Honda ridgeline, it's ugly as sin, but practical as all get out. Super reliable too.

Cousin has a Grand Cherokee with the Hemi. Drives nice, handles nice, but has shit for room inside. A 4-door sedan has more space. Cargo area is also pathetic for an SUV. May as well get an AWD car if you're looking at them.

I drive an '02 Toyota Highlander. While it may be the modern version of the family truckster, it runs like a champ, gets great mileage for an AWD SUV, feels like a car and not a truck on the road, and will go anywhere within reason plus haul small trailers and hold plenty of crap. The engine was developed for their Lexus line and is unstoppable. Not sure what their putting in them these days, but it has always been tough to beat Toyota. Built in TN to boot.

Thank you for input guys!!!! I really appreciate it!

Its coming down to the toyota 4runner... hmmm

Simms,
I think you will be more than happy aside from what i mentioned about hauling your sleds, the V6 is a great engine from 2003 to the present, the newer 5th generation is even more spacious than my 2003, also black vehicles suck they get way too hot in the summer an also pain keeping clean..may i suggest a galactic grey mica or maybe a forset color or something.

Toyota Tundra. I had the Ram 2500 with the cummins, with the new "blue Tech" emmisions i dropped down to 17 mpg and was paying .50 more a gallon. My ball joint stud just broke one day and left me stranded. the rear door spring popped out and well I got sick of the BS and went to Toyota. I had a business vehicle that the employees beat the crap out of. aside from routine maintenance, I had zero problems. sold it with 209,000 on it and it is still running today.

F 150 with Eco Boost twin turbo V-6

Will tow 11,000 pounds, get 22MPG highway and will smoke the little dweebs with their tuner cars at the light .

Shocking performance from 3.5 Litres
