Meeting fellow NEFF members...

My family participates in a web site that allows its members to give viable items away to other members of that site - rather than putting them out in the trash to be taken to landfills. Sometimes you give some good things away, sometimes you get some good things. Less hassle than EBay.

Today, we went to pick up something.

When we arrived at the donor's house- as I walked up to the front door - I see a wicker creel being used as a mailbox. I wondered if a FFer lives here.
Imagine my surprise as the door was opened and there is a fellow NEFF member that I know standing there.

Have any others here inadvertently run into fellow NEFF members, either on stream, at lake or at an otherwise unexpected place?

That's a pretty good idea (creel as a mailbox). That's what they should be used for!

I don't technically run into people but when I'm found fishing, I usually get pelted in the back of the head with rocks and whatever else people might find laying around. If you rock throwers are here reading this, please stop!

I've met at least two members while fishing (C&R several times). It could have been more, but it's difficult to recognize someone who you've never met.

Do we need a secret handshake?

I have meet a few members from the site randomly. It never ceases to amaze me when I drive five hours away and run into someone I know. Sometimes the encounters are good other times the encounters go down hill.

My most memorable encounter was when a fellow NEFF member tried to hole jack me. The best part about it was I knew him and knew that he should have known better. I actually got worked up pretty bad and it kinda took the fun out of things.

However with that said in most instances its fun to run into other NEFF and over time I agree with you about the name tags.

Well, I did, just yesterday, when a fellow NEFF member picked up some stuff we wanted to get off our hands since we will be moving. What a surprise it was when the The_Sib was standing our door!

Maybe we need a NEFF sticker for our cars or a patch for our fly vest?

The idea with the mailbox came to me when we, while "pregnant" took a lot of walks around the neighborhood and realized that people have some really funky stuff as mailboxes... and I had an old wicker creel at hand. The mailman did so far not object, maybe he is a fellow trout fisherman?

We both went to watch the state stock some trout.

Sticker on the car is probably not a good idea. Based on some of the discussions here in the past, I don't think I would want the locals to know my car is driven by a NEFF contributor. Now a hat, or patch, that's an idea. I would certainly be interested in purchasing either....perhaps that's a way Denis could get some monies for running the site?

Here's a guy on e-Bay that will do 48 for $288, with custom embroidering any logo. That's $6/hat cost, and I think these could sell for about $12/hat. Denis could make a little profit for the site administration costs.

If you're serious about the hats, someone will have to come up with a simple but original design. If you volunteer, please don't be offended if your work is not chosen. Actually... Our photo uploading software is capable of a voting system. If anyone is interested, I can set it up to accept your designs then people can vote on their favorite ones. Leave it up for a month and at the end of the month we'll have a winner.

Hats would be great as long as their good quality hats (not baseball caps). Ones with adjustable clasps on the back (for my big head). Don't know about others, but I'd be willing to pay $20 for a good quality NEFF hat. Or maybe just a little patch or pin that could be attached to a hat would be better.

I agree with QualityTime that DC should make something on the sell of the hats.

I need a new hat now too.....my WBA hat is floating somewhere off the Na Pali coast of Kauai. Lost it on a zodiac raft tour last November.

I'd take a stab at a site design, but I'm no graphic artist....hell, I'm no artist at all. Could we just do a big NEFF and use the graphic of the brown rising to the mayfly that's already on the site header?

I think that will do fine. Draw it up, post it, and maybe someone here that is an artist can put the final touches on it.
