little leigh today

babyblue

Stupid is forever, I should know.
going to the little leigh in allentown pa. leaving now. this is perfect winter conditions for that stream. be nice to see some members there, even though i don't know what 80% of you look like. merry christmas to all! :)

I said I was going off to the range for a an hour this morning, then maybe a little fishing.

The look I got from my wife forecast the impending apocalypse. (DEFCON 5! DEFCON 5!)

Now in full damage control mode I said "Just kidding", and thankfully she bought it.

Disaster averted. A merry Christmas indeed!

Good luck, catch some for me.

Ran into a guy on the Ramapo yesterday who said his wife did not apreciate him fishing on Sat, I advised him (guy in his 20's) that you have to condition them right from the start and make them understand fishing is not somthing you do by choice but must do or you get very miserable to be around. He caught on right away with the comment " yea, women are like dogs and they learn to adapt" my kind of guy :argue: :applaudit

ec, i'm fortunate that my wife is sympathetic to my life long addiction of fishing. i've been fishing for 36 years. when we got married i told her that it was something that was incurable. i love my wife dearly for that. she knows where i am at, not at a t***y bar or something like that. i finally got her to fish in wildwood this oct. she thought it was cool but not something she would do on a regular basis. i count my blessings for such luck! :)

I do spend a lot of time at work, or travelling, and so when I get time to relax I like to go fish, or hunt, or shoot, or whatever.

My wife feels I should spend more time with her. Geez, whatever would I want to do that for?

I always tell her that she can come along if she wants to, but not to tell me I can't go. :ballnchai And actually, she doens't raise a fuss at all 90% of the time. It's only when it's a major holiday, or her birthday, or our anniversary , or something like that she gets irritated when I say I want to go fish, or hunt, or shoot, or whatever...

Fish & Hunt

Got tired of the you can't use the car. We got plans..........
Well I had a plan and it worked............Your fired.............

She wanted to make amends but we know that really it was revenge

Been happy ever since!

The formula is take the 90% and give her the "special days". when Jane wants to be with her I know she "really wants" me to with her so there is no discussion. I think it's the least I can do and she never really bugs me about fishing to much. Sometimes you just have to be a couple because if you lose that you will lose the marriage or wish you did.

I agree Andre, my post was intended to be tongue-in-cheek. It doesn't stop me from trying to get my wife's goat & teasing her. She expects it from me, and I wouldn't want to let her down.

Sib,
Check Christmas Day Eve Fishing. I think it found it's way in another post.

Well Said

Andre:

Well said , and I concur.
By any chance might you have six numbers between 1 and 52 that may appear in the future on ping pong balls falling from a not to large drum ?

report for 2-6-06

I fished the Little Lehigh for the first time yesterday, just before dark, and I landed 2 bows and a brown. The brown was about 18"- 19".:applaudit Nice place.

Little Lehigh

I heard the Fly srtetch was a little muddy. I'd like to go up this Sat. Mabe you could post the conditions of the stream. Thanks Robt. I don't know how this message got here I thought it would go at the end. Oh well thanks for the info. Hmm, just like at home, everything out of sync. Hehe.

Little Lehigh

Since it was my first time there I'm not sure what normal conditions are, but the water seemed a little high on the banks by the fly shop, and the clarity wasn't good. You couldn't see fish until they hit the surface or less then 4" from the surface. I plan on going up again on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. I had 1 fish hit on a brown stone nymph #18 dead drifting, 1 on a BHgreen meeny, and another on a black stone nymph #18. I also tried their sculpin (the little Lehigh Fly Shop) which I had zero luck with. I'm guessing that if you had the right size fly and it was on their nose they were gonna try it.

Flyfishingbiker,
Nice post. Can you tell me how to get to this spot or any links with information? I commute and work in Allentown weekly and it would be great to find some fishing time if I stick around a day or two. I don't know the area all that well aside from where I work though so appreciate some directions. Thanks!!

try mapquest and look up fish hatchery road. in Allentown. Head to the bottom of the hill, once you cross the river, look to you left for a hard switch back turn down the hill. It is a piece of cake to find, really.

Acirig, It was my first time there. My friend was reading off directions he printed from the internet. I'm from South Jersey, so I couldn't help, sorry. But if you go to the link for The Little Lehigh Fly Shop, I'm sure they have directions to getto the shop, and if you make it there, the stream is 30' behind the shop.

I fished the Little Lehigh for the second time on Fri 2-10-06. I hooked up to what I thought was a huge brown, But it turned out to be a sucker fish. He was a great fight on my 5' 2wt. He probably had 10" of girth or more. He hardly fit in my net. The water was clear, and I could see around 30 fish where I was fishing. They wouldn't take anything, not even the kitchen sink. At one point I seen a fish rise so I put on a dry stimulator, and a bow went after it, but I didn't hook into him. Nothing after that. I think these fish get line shy real quick... If I got a hit on a fly, they wouldn't hit it again. Then I would change flies then I would get a hit, then nothing. ??????? If anyone knows the secret please pass it along. I tried all the recommended flies plus 3 dozen more. I tried long leader small 6x tippet, I tried with an indicator, I tried without an indicator, you name it I tried it. I'm going to try and post the pic of the sucker fish.

"If anyone knows the secret please pass it along. "

My secret to the LL is:

1) Tie on a pink san juan worm with a #6 split shot
2) Cast it in clear slow water where you can see the fish and let it sink to the bottom
3) Watch the trout swim around and eventually nose it up and set the hook.

works every time...gets boring after a while.

Sounds almost like fishing with bait! ;)
