Little Lehigh, Upper Fly Area

TroutChaser

My spin rod is collecting dust
Can anyone share some insight on the Upper Fly Area on the Little Lehigh (Wild Cherry to Millrace)?

I've wanted to explore that area a bit, but was looking for some pointers on parking, access, public or posted areas, etc.

Thanks.

You can park right past the bridge on Wild Cherry.

I've walked down from there a good 1/2-3/4 mile. Should be able to pick up a trout of two right at the bridge and the first deep run 10 feet down from the bridge. At about1/4-1/2 mile down, you come on some really flat water that is really tight with overhanging trees. There is a massive log jame at the end of the flat that holds a ton of trout and will hold a ton of trout forever cause the trick is trying to pull them out of the wood. The log jam and mud will probably stop you, but you won't need to go any farther down, enough trout in the log jam to hold your interest.

There is also parking right past the bridge at millrace. Classic water working your way up for about 1/4 mile but for some odd reason, not a lot of trout. Basically gave up going here a year ago, jsut aint worth it to me.

Your best bet is to access the section right in the middle of the FFO water - use the road in between Millrace and Wild Cherry. You'll find a road here that follows the creek from a good 1/2 mile with pull outs in several locations. This is classic water as well but has some really nice flowing deep runs and a nice deep pool full of trout right before the footbridge. I've caught more than my fair share of trout in this stretch, plenty open and plenty of fish willin to hit nymphs. try it, you won't be disappointed.

It is nice looking water, but that section has so much siltation that the stream bottom looks like it's paved (with mud). The entire stretch from above the breached dam down to the bridge at Millrace is like that. It's a shame. As you said, the section just below Wild Cherry holds some fish.

OK, thanks for the info guys. I suppose if that doesn't work, there's always the kiddie pool. :)

Oh, the hatchery, thats funny right there, screw that place. Tell you what, give a kid $1 and tell him to buy the feed and feed the fish in that closest runway and throw the feed at the pipe to see the trout run into it as hard as they can. Or better yet, tell him there are fish in the pipe he needs to feed then stand where the pipe dumps into the creek and hold on - it becomes ridiculous. I've thrown a whole bag into that pipe when not fishin to help out the fly-fisherman - they have no clue whats going on while I just sit there and laugh, its really funny to see everyone pack up around the pipe.

Too funny... I do the same things and watch all the fly fishermen go nuts because they think they are rising to insects.

well, they just stocked this upper section, figure I need to head into it and give a few trout a sore lip, anybody planning on hitting this creek up tomorrow. Probably be parked wt the footbridge halfway down so I can hit the pig pool just up from the bridge. Then again, if its high and muddy, might have to find something else like saucon or cedar, but I'll hold out hope it'll be clear and high tomorrow. hope to see someone out there.

Hey, were any of you guys fishing the Monacacy yesterday. Stopped on the Brdlepath bridge and saw a gentleman down there fishing but couldn't make out if they were spinning or flyfishing it. I really don't like the Monacacy (way to flat and muddy for my taste, reminds me of trout streams in Poland) but if it was one of us, could I get a PM report, maybe, please?
