Lamson Guru- anyone use them?

flyI4

Fishizzle, I use worms but I'm looking to upgrade!
So I'm looking into picking up a couple reels for my 4wt and 5wt for the upcoming season and wanted to see how guys like them on here. I pretty much only use lamson reels and currently own both lamson konic and velocity reels. However, the guru looks like a nice trout reel. Never used one before, so just looking for some input. Is it light? Do you like the drag system?

I have a Litespeed that I like, but I feel it's machined to within an inch of its life in the name of weight. The guru should be a little more robust. My favorite reel is a Ross Evolution LT, with my Nautilus FWX as a close second.

The litespeed is my go to trout reel.

yeah, Ive heard that about the litespeed-- that they can get a little bent out of shape easily and can't take that good of a beating. I feel like fishing in a drift boat doesn't help that much either since you are always banging the reels around getting in and out. I think for the price the guru is at least worth a shot- cant beat lamson's price points and quality in my opinion.

You can't bang the smaller Litespeeds around. I have a 1.5 whose spools look like shit from being bent back so often. The sound of the drag going out is awesome though, makes it worth it. The Nautilus you can throw around a bit more, it doesnt mind as much.

Bang for buck the Ross is sweet though.

I have a guru 3.5 on my Beulah switch rod and a guru 1.5 on my Helios and fucking love them. Deff a nice reel!

I have three Gurus and a Litespeed. The guru is absolutely a more durable reel for banging around and the drags on both are very good with minimal startup inertia. I have a Hatch on my switch rod, quite a bit more money but it is bomb proof compared to the Lamsons. I spoke with Hatch and they are not going to get trapped in the race to the lightest reel on the market. They would prefer to have a solid reliable reel that can take a beating at the cost of more weight. What is most important is that the reel balances to the rod. Nothing worse than to have the weight switch from below the casting hand to above.
