Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

Here is the status of stocking at the Gorge from Delaware River Outfitters Reports:

"For some reason the Division of Fish and Wildlife refuse to stock the Gorge. I have been there the last two Tuesdays and the stocking truck never came though. There are some fish in the Gorge from the preseason stocking but not a lot of catching going on. I talked to a CO Tuesday and he says they are only going to stock occasionally because of the new regs. If you like to fish the Gorge, email the Divsion and tell them how disappointed you are in there management of the gorge, maybe we will get some fish. www.njfishandwildlife.com. I got a response from the Division of Fish and Wildlife, the Gorge will be stocked 3 times a year, once preseason, week 3 inseason, and week 7 inseason. Boy, aren't we lucky. Continue to let Fish and Wildlife know that we are also license holders."

That explains why its been slow the last two weeks I've been going to the Gorge. The first week into season I tied into a 15" Brown and it really got me hooked on the Gorge. After that I've been going almost everyday after work and I'm catching less and less fish everytime I go.

They skipped the third week also. They did stock last week though, but it was done via small pick-up truck with a tank on it. How many fish could they have put in the 2 1/2 miles?

I can't say with certainty since i'm unable to find my notes, but I *believe* it was stated at the '02 trout meeting at Pequest that the rate would be about 1250 fish per stocking in KLG under the new regs. I seem to recall it being 500 fish per mile for inseason and 1000 fish per mile pre-season. It was also stated there would only be 2 in-season stockings.

The reason given for the reductions was the new regs essentially made it C&R fishing by and large, therefore stocking at the former rate would result in exceeding the carrying capacity of the stream.

Perhaps a query directed to PH on denis F's site might provide more accurate and reliable info.

I stopped by the Gorge after work last night and I got one hit after about an hour. Have they been hitting for anyone else?

Picked up 2 and missed 3 others wednesday afternoon, large hatch of late hendricksons was using an 18 or 20 red quill just under the surface and a hares ear dropper...

i usually use a beads-head hares ear, they were working for me the first few times a went. i guess i have to become more familiar with other flies such as a hendrickson. i just started fishing the Gorge and using a fly rod a couple weeks ago. I thought it was great, throw a nymph in there and before I knew it a brookie was on my line. wouldn't always land them but they were always hitten. Just no the case anymore.

I had a great day at the Gorge Sunday! I only netted one 10"mykiss, but had at least 8 other hits. Any nymph I threw in would get hit, usually at the end of the pools as the nymph would seem to be emerging. I also almost fell in TWICE! I really scared my brother.

I don't know about anyone else, but I wouldn't be heart broken if they didn't stock the gorge for a couple of years - quite frankly it can't take the pressure it got last year.

Keep the stocking trucks out and let the place breathe for a bit.
