HUGE Smallies today 4-16

Man was today my day..caught and photographed over 30 smallies today on the big D. My smallest was almost a lb and biggest was 4 1/2 -5 lbs. these fish were psyco aggressive today and the same streamers I`ve been fishing hard with paid off big today! This was some of the best fishing I have ever done in this state. On top of the smallies I caught a 2lb+ largemouth and a 15" rainbow trout. all were released unharmed. The funniest part of this was on the way in to the spot I passed two guys with flygear and stopped them to chat. The guys were aggravated that they were not catching anything at all and only had two hits in 4 hours. I only fished from 2-4pm today. Almost 40 fish and all trophys! never changed my fly once,I just kept replacing the tippit because the fish were grinding it on the rocks while fighting! 5wt st croix rod with 2lb tippet.

Awesome job dude! Pretty easy to tell where you are.... Smallies on the fly are the coolest thing ever (in freshwater, anyway )!!

Any pics of that 4.5-5lb monster? I don't see it, unless the photo is making it look really small.

my Biggest one led me on an incredible chase downstream and into the main river..20+ minuites and I felt the obligation to release very quickly once the ordeal was over with. Its the truth..only a few inches longer then the biggest in pics but super fat. Thought maybye it was a loaded female so I did not handle her. If it was a male then by god he was a monster. Y`all just gotta trust me I guess...

No, sounds like you had a female full of eggs. Good job releasing her unharmed. The pic is burned into your brain now anyway. No need to prove it to anyone else. I do that a lot too, so we're both on the same page!

One fly the whole time...what fly?

I posted pics of the flies in another post. Since then a bunch of members have been kind enough to advise me that they are saltwater flies. I ground all the barbs off with a dremel and have been kickin some butt. I caught some yesterday on crayfish flies with a splitshot 4-6inches ahead. Seems to me its anything with brown and flash and deep. Good luck!
