Hello From Potter County

PALongbow

Fishizzle, I use worms but I'm looking to upgrade!
I found this site last week and thought that I would drop in and say hello from Potter County PA. The fishing here this year has been great so far except for last week when the creeks were very high. I was out anyway and managed to catch a few trout in the high water with some nymphs. I was out two weeks ago and landed a 20 inch brown and 18 inch rainbow in one of our delayed harvest areas. Creeks are stocked now and the delayed harvest areas are very good places to fish if you can't wait another week until the opener.

Helloooooooooo Potter County. I'm not familiar with Potter County at all. What type of hatches do you get out there? How is the fishing in general, not the catching, but the actual fishing? Do you have to fish near Walmarts, or are you fishing in more of a nice private place?

Catskill Lover,

The fishing here in Potter County (North Central, PA) is awesome. We have Pine, Kettle, Sinamahoning, and the Allegheny river all within 1/2 hour of where I live. We have a ton of open water to fish and a few special regulation areas. I have to drive at least 1 hour in any direction to get to a Walmart so I would consider this area to be remote. I would equate this area to the Catskills area except we don't see the kind of fishing pressure that the Catskills see. Our fishing is just as good and maybe better. You should try this area some time. Give me a shout and I'll show you some awesome fishing.

Im very interested in giving your area a try. MY dad and I werent sure what time was best to come out to visit. What do u think would be best? I live in central jersey so its a pretty far ride and Id like to come out during prime time. And to the other posters, whats with the attitude about "walmarts". Hate to break it to you, but anyplace with great fly fishing isnt usually a up and going city with lots of things going on.

Anytime is a good time to visit Potter County. Fishing during the weekdays are even better and you will usually have the stream to yourself. The fishing gets really good beginning of May with plentiful mayfly hatches. I like May and June because of the good Mayfly hatches we have on most streams in the area. July & August is a great time to use bug patterns such as crickets, hoppers, and ant patters during the summer months. I believe this applies to most areas of the North East when it comes to hatches.

PALongBow,

Howdy and welcome. DC keeps a fine place here, ... he even puts up with a northern neighbor lurking about :)

I have to drive at least 1 hour in any direction to get to a Walmart so I would consider this area to be remote. ...
That's a hoot. ... and I thought I used to live in a remote area 'cause I had to drive an hour to get to a paved road ;) , the mail only came in once every two weeks  and the company had more helicopters than pickup trucks :)
