Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

Hardy/Greys .... the Leader in Two Things, Worst Customer Service and .....

Never had any problems with Hardy/Greys and I own (2) XF2 (though not in 2wt) and 4 Hardy reels...A 10 ft 2 wt will have a pretty thin tip, as Rusty said, it only takes one nick from split shot to compromise the blank...The only rod I ever broke in 30 years of FF was a Sage RPL ...Went down twice...They charge only $50 for repair/shipping and service fee...So that is good news...you should save yourself at least $16 over the next season on your broken Sage..

Split shot is the enemy of Graphite. I can attest to that. Last year I was hung up on the bottom while attempting to free fly, the shot came back and hit the tip section. My Orvis 9’ -6weight Performer snapped on the next cast. Needless to say I consider this mistake on my part. I was upset about my own stupidity. Orvis being the class act that they are fixed the rod no questions asked. There is no excuse for carelessness. This is the only incident that resulted where I have had damaged a rod in 35 years of fly fishing.
Mike if I were you I would assess why 4 rods had snapped on me. You are not saying the reel seat fell off or the guides came unwrapped (All manufacturing defects). I do not know what you do when you fish. I do know this there is no fly rod manufacture in the world that makes an unbreakable fly rod. If used properly the rod will last a lifetime.

Mike,
nice to meet you and sorry for my rant but your whole story came off like some industry cry baby trying to stur shit. Did you buy the rods from a shop? or online? I would have taken the broken rod back to the shop and seen what they could have done for you. I know we have sent rods back for customers with mulitpule breakages. As for Hardy being cheap korean junk, I know that the lightweight I have on one of my rods is about 25 years old, the new one I just got last year is actually a mechanically better built reel, there is far less wobble than the old one has even when it was new. best thing is new ones have a stronger machined spools. I have actually picked up a spare new spool for the old reel( it fits just right). I also have an Angle that has seen atleast 35 days on Casco bay in Maine for stripers in the last three years. I clean it at the end of the day and at the end of the trip I take the line and backing off to wipe the arbor down and let line dry out a bit. weather it is "korean Junk" or the new Hatch you got to "take care of your stuff" Maybe your kid might grow up to want to use it.

Steve B, I have seen better less grainy pictures of the loch ness monster than your avatar.

I like my streamflex 10ft 4 wt but the third or fourth time out the threaded butt below the reel seat FELL OFF while playing a fish. I've never had an issue with any fly rod so it was quite a surprise when I need to fight the fish line in hand with the reel at my feet while anchored, get the net, etc... So even though it was replaced quickly under warranty and I only needed to pay for shipping back to Greys....I'm not inclined to buy another. Maybe it was a fluke, but I've had zero issues with Sage, Orvis, TFO, etc rods over the years.
i had that same exact thing happen to mine a few weeks ago while rigging up my rod..always have electrical tape handy..it was a great temporary fix so i could at least fish for the day..i ruffed it up a bit and then re epoxied it when i got home..its now better than new..i really like the streamflex rods..my 10ft 4 wt. is my go to stick.

another TPO follower..the weed smell came from lefty at the casting pond.

trouser,
thats becuase it was taken by a salmon yeti! with a cheap video camera. I think it is like 3.0 megapix when the pictures get down loaded they look like this. The same guy got footage of a 18+ brown trout from hook up to landing and it looks like something shot with an old super 8 while they were running. I will find a better picture just for you.

Guys I dot abuse any of my equipment. Actually I am kind of a freak when it comes to up keep. I used to mate on some of the best private boats on the east coast in some of the largest t tournaments. I am fishing about 2 to 3 days per week. These breaks are coming not from split shot or abuse , but from fishing. The rods itself are breaking in some strange spots. Especially at the ferrules. As for the angel reel. That thing was the biggest peice of crap. And if u want to know how good I keep up on my equipment I just sold 2 hatch reels in order to purchase two brand new hatch finatics . They were used 2 seasons. Here's the blog to one guy that I sold it too The Weary Angler.

Rods should not break like this. I have a few sage esn and have a bunch of zaxis rods. None of them to this date has skipped a beat. Since sage has been so good I me I just purchased two sage one rods. Thankfully I do have the disposable income in order to buy this but it does get me annoyed that those hardy Rods break so easily. And after seeing there sloppiness at the recent somerset show I am done with that company.

If you need an address to send your disposable income to, PM me and I'll get that to you right away.

I think this guy means it.

I got my angel 2 over two years ago. It's been flawless. Again if you had sent in the warranty it would have been replaced. Throwing it off the bridge was just dumb

This thread inspired me to visit my local shop tonight to see an Angel for myself. Corrosion resistance aside, they felt like crap next to a similarly priced Ross, Nautilus, or Lamson. My Korean made Battenkills have smoother drags and feel more solid.

Skim,
I think so as well, he has gotten the sage ESN it will never break. He is already better because of it his days on the water have increaded 3 fold in just a few days. He went from fishing 1 day a week with a full time job to 2 or 3. disposable income or not tossing a reel is crap. I love guy like this that come thru the shop wiggle a rod back and forth and buy it beacuse of the name it has on it without ever casting it. wich there were more guys with disposable income industry would be better off.

I threw it off the upstream side of the Hale Eddy bridge. It has no line as the Wulff line is more valuable than the reel. Go get it!
I was at Hale Eddy this morning..Water was up a bit, waded a grid pattern for about 50 yards, no reel...Can you be a bit more decrepit as to where you tossed that reel? I have an LHR that I love and had no problems with,That Angle will look nice on it, and its probably nice and clean by now..

College professor I take it?
