Gorge 7/07

Took my sister fishing in the Gorge yesterday... Complete newbie but she could make the necessary ten foot flip cast with a dry dropper. Ran a #8 yellow stimulator with a bead hares ear and a prince hanging off and worked the medium sized pockets. She landed nine and hooked at least a dozen more. Needless to say, the gorge is one fishy place right now... Get there. And stop at Shannons because the guy there is one hell of a nice guy and had great advice. NONE of my flies that i bought there had any durability issues and he uses Pacific Fly Company flies which are typically tied nicer than Umpqua.

Yeah! Possibly another female angler...but you forgot to mention....is she hooked on the sport?

Kelly - I know lots of lady anglers. Did you ever reach out to Dame Anglers? Those gals are hardcore fly fishers! And they book a great trip and have a lot of fun together:)

Speaking of female anglers, there is a group with monthly meetings in Ridgewood called Joan Wulff Fly Fishers, not strictly a female only club (about 60% or so) that is dedicated to promoting women fly fishing. Some of these ladies can fish rings around us guys, and some are newbies but want to learn. During fishing season usually have group trips - for example later this month heading up to the Farmington.

I am one of the male members, who attends with my 14 year old daughter.

If anyone wants info, PM me.

Thanks for the info Rusty- I'll check them out too. As Peter mentioned, the Joan Wulff Fly Fishers is the club I belong to. It's nice to see more females into the sport, but more often that not I seem to only see gentlemen and some not so gentle men on the river.

Not that it's a bad thing...but also nice to welcome a lady to the sport.

colorado were you fishing with your dog as well?? If so, I am suprised you caught so many fish with your dog splashing around in the water right behind ya. Good job!

Yep dog was with me. He is usually pretty good on rivers, lays on the bank and passes out most of the time. Where you there too?

Oh AK... Don't be mad? I would gladly invite you along but I have not gone up yet. I am thinking of going in August if we can make our schedules work.

My holiday weekend was quite wonderful in CT. Fished the Norwalk River, got pushed in a pool, ate too much food, saw some fireworks. And yours?

What about doing a day outing sometime. I would love to trade insults, laughs and get some insightful fishing tips. I am unemployed for the summer...gotta love a teacher's schedule!

Always loving some fun!!!!

yea I was leaving and saw you guys were fishing down by the private water where I was parked and fished through already. I had something BIG on earlier down a little farther from where you were. Whatever it was I hooked into it and it bolted down stream. It pulled probably 100 yards within abount 10 sec down stream so I was well I know whats going to happen when I try to slow him down, and yep, snapped him right off. Was still pretty amazing so watch my line go so fast so quickly. I hope to get another chance at him on another day.
