FUDR Meeting Sunday in Hancock

JOE.T

Dry Flies Only
Hi Everybody,

There has been a great deal of concern about water releases, river flows, and impacts to the cold water ecosystem of the Upper Delaware River watershed in the opening weeks of the recreational season.

Please consider joining us this Sunday, May 30 at 5pm at the FUDR office in Hancock, NY to discuss:
Current River Conditions-How We Got Here
What to Expect Moving Forward
Action Steps
We hope to see you on Sunday!

Friends of the Upper Delaware River
158 E. Front St.
Hancock, NY

For the River,
Jeff Skelding, Executive Director

Last minute reminder the meeting will be in the old Radio Shack location in Hancock at 5:00pm tonight. If your in the area stop in we are hoping for a good turn out.

Curious about how this meeting went. Would have gone but had to leave town by mid-afternoon. Anybody who attended feel like summing it up for the rest of us?

Hi All,

Pretty good meeting. About 60 people.

Good energy and lots of volunteers to help.

A couple of interesting ideas.

More from others, I am sure.

Jim

If someone doesn't start spilling the details of what went on at the meeting I may have to resinstittute water boarding to get some answers.

Hell Mac, a right winger like you should have access to the NSA tapes of the meeting.

Finite allow me to correct your faulty perception.

First I am a patriot first and foremost. I am Paul revere of this generation.
Second the NSA collects phone records not meeting minutes you boob
Third I am decidedly against the NSA bulk data collection program

No if you were at the meeting please share some details. I'm beginning to feel this was more of an initiation to a cult then a meeting about cold water and fish

Thanks for setting me straight.

The meeting went very well and Jim highlighted the main points.

In general FUDR acknowledged "an overarching desire of the group is to see an action plan with near-term, mid-term, and long-term goals and to determine specific actions we can take as individuals and as a community." They also reminded the community that they are a very small group and need the help and support of all parties of interest on the river. The next meeting is scheduled for mid June where they will begin to formalize some of these new action committees and look to build on and extend relationships and awareness of the issues we face.

Bottom line is if you love the UDR System and want things to change for the good. Then reach out to Jeff Skelding skelding@fudr.org
410-245-8021 and see what you can do to help and become part of the solution.

I don't want to pee in your cornflakes but does this mean no action plan currently exists?

It seems that the general public action plan proposed at the meeting will be published in mid June. So to answer your question a formal document doesn't exist to my knowledge. I couldn't speak to their internal plan that would be a good question for Jeff/FUDR.

I think these are all growing pains for FUDR a better level of communication and transparency to what they do will help everyone. I think we will see this improve in the upcoming months.

If you want piss in the tall grass with the big dogs pick up the phone and call Jeff Skelding yourself and ask him any question's you'd like.

Just a suggestion.

Easy Joe T. It's legitimate to ask what plan FUDR was executing against. I've donated to the organization even though I am rarely able to fish the upper delaware. Might be willing to donate more if it makes sense. As for peeing in the tall grass with the big dogs let's be honest. Right now there are no big dogs just a lot of little ones barking real loud

Well maybe if you called Jeff you'd get a better sense of what is happening going forward.

I backed away from FUDR years ago because of no comprehensive plan in place.I really believe things will change going forward that's why I'm back in now.

Everyone is accusing me of complaining about trying and wanting to have a better fishery.

It's like all of the Baseball teams I've coached for my 3 boys over the years, I'm the guy coaching at least 2 teams every year, than a dad shows up 2 months into the season or some mom and they start complaining why there son doesn't get enough playing time or what I'm doing wrong.

Well Mr Mom and Dad why don't you coach a team and ask your son why he doesn't come to any practices, asks to sit out so he can eat his ring pop.But want's to bat 3rd,pitch and play SS.Hey Dad go take a long walk off a short pier.

No participation plaques on my teams.

Well if we are being accurate your analogy is incorrect. In your story you are the dad complaining about his son (translated you are complaining about the flows) without actually participating (until recently:)). Look Joe I'm glad you are jumping back in and have no doubt you love the deleware wand want it taken care of. I do think you and some others have been overboard in regards to criticism about Jim Serio. The larger point is that no one can afford the infighting if you want to be successful in making any change for the better. It's a simple rule of negotiation that I see fail time and time again. I hope this new group is wildly successful and can make positive changes. I do think it's odd based on the fact FUDR isn't really a new organization that there isn't or wasn't a well articulated plan already but whatever it's aster under the bridge. Let's move forward

As you may or may not know I've been involved with the flows since the DRF was formed and than joined the board with Jim Serio for the DRF.When the FUDR was formed in 2002 at it's inception I joined.

I haven't been knocking Jim Serio if anything I've said that he has put in more time into the fisheries plan than most anyone I know.

Jim is also aligned with the FUDR btw.The infighting is the guys on this board that haven't a clue about the flow plans but are all experts from afar.

Some of us are expressing our frustration about the flows in general since we've seen this going on for more than 20 years, for some guys 30 plus years.

Like I said why don't you come up to one of FUDR the meetings? Or why don't come up and meet with a few of us that have gotten together and have decided that it's time to get back in with Both feet and back Jeff and the FUDR .

I think you'd be pleasantly surprised, listen this online bullshit doesn't serve anyone well when it comes to personalities or taking things out of context.

That's a direct invite to you Big Mac.

Jim

The way I see it is assembling a team of like minded individuals who all have a strength than can be utilized going forward to accomplish so much that needs to be done .

In Business, when I played sports, and all the teams I've coached it was about having the "A" Team, and as some of you know there is no I in team.

See you in the morning.

I will be there tomorrow as well at 10:00am. Convinced my boss the rain may make for a good fishing day so he ok'd the hooky day and we are going to the meeting first. This is an important meeting in my opinion to let people know first off that our complaints have been acknowledged by the people who matter, and secondly to discuss what we need to do moving forward to make this difficult season meaningful in terms of progress on the river management front. I will provide a summary of what is said and I'm sure others will fill in the blanks.

For those unaware of what is happening, NYC Dept of Environmental Protection Commissioner Paul Rush publicly acknowledged for the first time that a thermal release component is an import an develop that needs to be considered moving forward. Sure- this may be political posturing but this is going to likely be a slow process either way so the first step here is important. The meeting tomorrow is going to address strategy moving forward for modifying the plan and how people can get involved and have an impact. This is the most active I have ever seen the Delaware river community on the advocacy front and its great to see. Will update tomorrow after the meeting.
