Fly Lines

JasonM

I currently am using the Joane Wulffe fly line on two of my reels. I was considering the Scientific Anglers lines, but I was not sure which one I should go with. It will be a weight forward 5 wt. Does anyone have suggestions?

Jason,

Sorry to respond to a question with a question, but how do you like the Wulff lines? I've got to replace a Cortland 444 5WF and am also looking to try something else.

I've also been looking at the Gary LaFontaine line in the Teeny Professional series, but haven't been able to find anyone who's used it. It's supposed to be a delicate weight forward with a matte olive finish.

Then again, I may end up with an SA line, too.:)

I haven't add problems with it, but it was better than the Redington lines that I had been using. I am looking to try something else. Some people do not like the white color and think that it puts fish down. I mostly nymph fish so I don't worry about putting the fish down.

Honestly the Cortland 444 & 444SL and 555 are great lines. This is one of the very few products that you can count on when you open the box. I swear by the Crotland product line. The only Cortland I did not like was the Lazer line series. SA products are good and will serve you well too. Only one other line to look at is RIO. I think anything else is just so so to why did I buy this. Jason, I tried the triangle taper by J. Wulff and was not pleased with it. I felt the Cortland 444SL out performed it in distance and on windy Days. I fish wet fly's to streamers and occasionally Dry Fly's. I felt I got a better presentation with Cortland. On My wifes two rods I put on Rio. At first I thought I made a mistake, when I test casted her rods with the line I was really impressed with the product. Slick, good casting distance and easy to maintain fly line. I am at the point in my fly fishing where I just like to grab a product that I really trust and go fishing. I will tell you, you never here me complain about my line is giving me troubles on stream. Keep in mind that it's better at times to go with a product you trust and used vs experimenting. When the economy was in better times I would experiment. In not so good times I tend to stay with things I know are reliable and proven. Just my two cents worth and tight Lines.
