AK - The only thing I can see from the ad is that I prefer the fly patch to be on the left side of the vest. No hat, maybe?

The picture's a little blurry, so I may not be seeing everything, but....
The rod disappears behind the text box....
A normal length rod, held in that position, would reappear above the text box somewhere in the vicinity of the "S" in the word "vest".
Possibilities:

Actually, his index finger is nowhere near the top of the grip - it's wrapped around it! Thumb or index finger is a matter of casting style preference, but THIS guy has no style at all.

All the other answers could be easily explained away by personal preference, or lack of expertise.
I don't want your little Wulff "Fly-O" practice rod (cane or not), give it to klg neighbor, (even though he didn't win).
