Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

sleeps with the fishes
I plan to fish the Big Flatbrook fly-only area in the rain on Sat. Can anyone give me some hints on what to use. I'm fairly new to fly fishing and have never fished the flatbrook. Any help would be appreciated.

probably low water

I haven't been to the Flatbrook since that warm spell in February, but I have to think it is running quite low with the lack of rain. Which means the stocked fish are going to be concentrated in the deeper holes. And I think most of the river is still open to bait/spin so your going to be competing with that unless you stick to the Blewett.

The Flatbrook does not do well in low water, but if we get a decent amount of rain over the next 2 weeks the first couple weeks of May are prime time for that piece of water.

Anyway, as far as flies.......Hare's ear, PT, and sparkle pupa all with bead heads are good producers. Go small with low water, 12-14 even 16. And while you're there pick up some of the bait containers left behind and remember Roy King.

Flatbrook this week

Was on the Flatbrook (fly only area) this week. All the fish are in the deeper holes and are getting punded on, as I left each sopt someone was there to take my place. I was there on Warm days and small BWO's were getting some attention.

Faire le zouave

Lad's low water fishing like you have described, I found it best if you fill your pockets with round stones, that way they are easier to throw when attempting to hit the trout on the noggin. I call it "Rock barrel fishing." It is also better if you have a number of other players there also, "Surround and chuck" technique it is called then. Don't forget to bring your net to capture those belly up trout.

Yepper Lad's, them-thar are good fish'n days.

thanks

Thanks for info on the Flatbrook. It didn't seem to low but the fish were stacked up. The few of us out there were leap-frogging each other for the holes. Many hungry fish! Could only take a few hours in the rain, fingers would not work anymore. Will be back on Sun.
