So at about 3:00 yesterday my phone makes its familiar "pinging" sound letting me know I have a text message. Normally this would be an ordinary event with a text from either a. a buddy of mine who decided to start drinking during his lunch break. b. my girlfriend or c. my wife. (kidding)
anyways. it was D. sonofabitchdog. aka corndog. all it read was "on my way to the BK, see you there" i would have been curious as to why he would say see you there when we had made no prior plans to fish, but i was too busy frantically gathering all my shit and thinking of excuses to tell my firm why i was leaving at 3 o'clock on a tuesday after labor day. (disclaimer, no meetings in the afternoon and the market wasn't jumping 2% in either direction) instead i just walked out, said to my secretery "i was leaving, meeting just came up" and walked out before i could be questioned. i got in my car at about 3:02. I work fast. (b, and c above can confirm this)
I get to "the spot" and i meet cdog and newbie on the river. immediately newbie gets into a couple fish. one nice one that got away right as I was trying to get the camera for a photo shoot. come to think of it, if i was thinking clearly, i would have netted him for him. just thought of that, sorry newbie. then cdog gets into one in some faster water. Both fish were taken on sulphurs i believe. (i only know they were sulphurs when corndog asked what i was using then gave me a tutorial on what i SHOULD be using and why i need to visit a fly shop asap. what can i say, im a minimalist, or just lazy)
so, im the odd man out. then, i get a good drift and WHAM, the hardest hitting 3 inch chub hits my fly. a chub, on the beaverkill. awesome. f my life.
right at dark cdog hit a nice one on a light cahill? he has pictures and figured him and newbie could post them since i dont have any.
water temp was right around 62. my temp was at about 98.6. trout temp was at, errrrrrr, im not sure, ask cdog and newbie cause i didnt catch any.
i got home and my girlfriend called me to say goodnight and to tell me that i had a serious problem if i was willing to drive up there. then i told her i didnt catch anything and she probably wanted to commit me right there and then. "you drove combined 3 and a half hours to do 3 hours of fishing and you didnt catch anything? wow bet youre not gonna do that again"
