Cell Phone Dry bag?

mbwmn

“Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?”
What are you guys doing with your cell phones?

I usually leave my Blackberry stashed in the car, as the last thing I want/need is someone from the office vibrating in to tell me the printers aren't working (usually the same person to whom I pointed out the flashing red light and flashing 1/2in high letters on the lcd readout that say "check paper" earlier in the day).

It would seem that this time of the year with weather and temps and traction being what it is I might want to have my phone w/ me out on the water...

I see Simms has a Tech Bag that is worn around the neck as do some others. Anyone have any experience w any of these? Can they be used w/ cold-wet-numb hands?

My situation is different because I work in and along the river so much and need my phone when doing so. What I did was to buy the waterproof and shockproof GZ One in orange. If I drop it in the river it will work just fine and I can see it at the bottom because it's orange. Of course you won't have the nice email features of a Crackberry, but there will be no need for a dry bag.

Agreed, leave it in the car. But, if you are out by yourself and feel safer having your phone nearby, I use one of those "yellow and blue make green" ziploc bags, so I can make sure that thing is sealed up tight!

I use one of these for my cell, keys, and camera. It takes the place of my wading belt. My Folstaff holster is usually attached to it as well.

Is that waterproof for a dunk or just like rain? Anything with a zipper doesnt seem "dunkable" to me.

Its just like a dry bag...you seal the two sides of the bag, roll it tightly four times and then snap in the clips. I haven't really dunked it yet but I don't see it being an issue. I don't use the zipper compartment at all, just the inner compartment.

My first advise is to just plain and simple leave it in the car. If you really need to have it with you then zip lock baggies will do the trick. water proof, not expensive and when you feel the bag needs to be replaced just pull a new one out. Save the money for tying materials or a fly line and so on.

well, it looks like the ziplock bag is the way to go for now. i carry a few extra in a backpack filled w/ socks and sweats. i like the freezer kind; they are somewhat reuseable.

i have been leaving it in the car, but i'll be fishing alone a lot more now that it's getting colder. the upside is that there won't be any 11pm summer hatches to chase after. i'll make a point of getting off the water before dark.

i have a lightly padded camera bag on my backpack strap. i might also give that a shot on the wader suspender. i'm really concerned about having it slip into the water or smashing it when i fall more than anything...
i do have a few small zippered pockets in my waders. i think i'll try that and a baggy.

thanks for all the feedback.
